Meanwhile...
Zoren’s eyes dilated as he watched Butler Gilbert shield Nathalie. Surely, the butler had devoted his entire life and death to her. However, that didn’t matter to him as he caught Nathalie climbing into the ascending chopper.
He opened fire, but it was too late.
The chopper had already taken off and continued to ascend, making the bullets useless.
"Take it down!"
"Don’t let her get away!"
Men, who had come here to take her down, shouted. However, their shouts were quickly replaced by others coming from all directions. Nathalie’s men had also arrived, keeping everyone busy as another round of crossfire raged.
Zoren’s face twisted, opening fire at the helicopter again, but to no avail.
"She’s getting away—"
"ZOREN!"
Just then, Nathalie’s shouts came from above. Armed with a rifle, she stood by the entrance of the chopper, eyes burning with resentment and unquenchable anger at Naylani’s son. Without warning, she pulled the trigger, aiming where he stood.
Instinctively, Zoren ran back into the mansion, barely saving himself from the incoming bullets.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Hiding behind the wall, the open door absorbed all the hits to the point it almost fell off its hinges. But that wasn’t what made the adrenaline pump into every vein of his body. It was the fact that she was getting away.
They couldn’t let her get away.
As the fight outside continued, Zoren’s mind raced, thinking of ways to stop her. Amid his thoughts, he caught someone running from the entrance.
His mind went blank as he turned, catching more of Nathalie’s men, who were on to him.
"There—"
BANG! BANG!
Zoren glided onto his knees, hiding behind the counter as continuous shots were aimed at him. He quickly reloaded, not thinking of anything else for now. Catching Nathalie was important, but the most important thing for him was... to go home alive.
To go back to his wife in one piece.
Once his rifle was loaded and locked, Zoren listened to the faint noise of hurried footsteps. After a beat, he gazed up and saw a man’s figure.
BANG!
Shooting the man down, he then slid to the side of the counter, enough to have protection, but also to see where the enemies were coming from. With that, he opened fire, taking down those who didn’t have time to hide.
After that, he hid behind the counter again.
His breathing was fast, his chest heaving heavily. Zoren quickly checked the chamber of his rifle. He had been fighting since he left the pavilion, barely looting those in his way. When he saw Nathalie and Butler Gilbert, Zoren didn’t have time to get more magazines from the fallen.
