Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress novel Chapter 585

Chapter 585: Odd

Minutes Ago...

Atlas was quietly reading a document when he heard some noises outside. He didn’t budge when he caught Slater’s faint voice, deeming it just another instance of Slater’s usual drama. Atlas was so used to his third brother that he didn’t care about it anymore.

Slater would eventually get it together.

Shaking his head, Atlas casually flipped to the next page. His room was unlike the chaos outside—it was peaceful and away from any drama. Perhaps that was one of the reasons he still hadn’t moved out, even though Penny had already moved in with Zoren.

"Now that I think about it..." he muttered, snapping his eyes away from the document. "I haven’t heard from her or him."

As far as Atlas remembered, Zoren had planned to tell Penny about her drunken antics for her own safety. Not that Atlas was against it. He simply didn’t tell her to keep his dignity intact, knowing she would keep asking him questions about how he knew or what she did to him.

Penny was smart enough to pick up on the lies if he ever answered those questions dishonestly.

"Did he tell her or not?" he wondered to himself. "Did she... remember what she did to me?"

His face soured at the thought, almost touching that despicable memory again. Atlas shook his head, deciding that it wasn’t his concern anymore.

’Whether or not he told her doesn’t matter. As long as he protects her and not even a single hair on her head is touched, then that’s the most important thing,’ he told himself, about to return to his work when his phone suddenly lit up.

Pausing, Atlas glanced at the phone in the farthest corner of the coffee table. He reached out to check it, only to see Hugo’s name on the screen.

"Why is he calling at this hour?" he wondered. "Did he get in trouble again?" freēwebnovel.com

Atlas frowned, thinking Hugo was just like Slater. Slater’s drama was to be expected, so Atlas felt a bit disappointed in Hugo. After all, he expected Hugo to be more mature than his third brother, but Hugo’s vacation was also making him lose his mind.

Regardless of Atlas’s thoughts and criticism of the caller, he still answered.

"Which station?" was Atlas’s greeting. "I can’t go there, but I’m sending you one of our lawyers. Send me your location and they’ll bail you out."

Hugo let out an awkward laugh. "First Brother, I never get arrested! What do you mean by sending one of our lawyers?"

"So they can compensate whoever you fought with and ensure they won’t press charges?"

"First Brother, I fight for the country, not with the people I should protect."

"Just making sure." Atlas shrugged. "I always thought you’d end up on the other side one of these days."

Atlas let out a shallow sigh as he leaned back, shaking his foot with his legs crossed. "So? If you’re not calling me because you’re arrested, then what’s the purpose of this call?"

"Well, ha ha... First Brother, Penny had wine tonight."

"..." Atlas slowly arched a brow. "And?"

"She left."

"Mama?" Penny looked back at Atlas, confused. "What’s that?"

Atlas asked such a question just to make her deny it or look at him. However, he didn’t expect this sort of answer. Everyone was equally confused, staring at Penny with tilted heads.

"Penny, what are you talking about?" Allison let out an awkward chuckle.

Slater frowned. "Mom, she’s been so spoiled that she’s messing with you now."

’Did I say something really strange?’ Penny wondered, glancing at them before she smiled. "I’m kidding, Mom."

Penny then cast Atlas a look, sporting a kind expression. "So, what if I went to see her there? I missed Mom and Dad. Is there a problem with that?"

"Penny is right, Atlas!" Charles chimed in. "Do you have a problem with that?"

Atlas ignored his father, knowing Charles was a lost cause when it came to his one and only daughter. However, staring at Penny, despite the confident look on her face, he knew she was lying.

’She has no idea what she’s talking about,’ Atlas thought, but he decided not to aggravate her by pressing the matter further. ’How is that possible, though? As far as I know, she doesn’t remember the things she did when she was drunk, but at the same time, she remembers things from when she was sober.’

Or was Atlas wrong all this time?

Atlas glanced at Slater, Charles, and even Allison, who didn’t dwell on Penny’s odd question. But when his eyes landed on Haines, he knew Haines also found Penny odd.
