Chapter 377
Meanwhile, Irene sat by her bedroom window, staring at nothing in particular. She’d tried reading, then checking emails, but couldn’t focus on either. Sophia’s words kept replaying on loop.
“I can give you money–enough for you and your children to live comfortably–but please leave Adam.”
“Who does she think I am?” Irene muttered, anger flaring again. “Some gold–digger who can be bought off?”
She moved to the window, watching the flowers in the garden sway the evening breeze. “But how far can this really go?”
Though she’d never leave Adam because of Sophia’s demands, the weight of such opposition felt suffocating. “Can a relationship survive when everyone’s against it?” she wondered aloud.
Irene closed her eyes, remembering the first time Adam had really smiled at her–not his polished social smile, but the genuine one that transformed his whole face. She thought about their quiet evenings together, the way he listened to her rambling medical stories, how he looked at her children with genuine interest rather than obligation.
“If I stay with Adam, will it hurt the kids?” Her throat tightened. “They’ve already grown up without a father. I don’t want them to lose their stability too…”
The only thing she knew for certain was this: “I don’t regret being with Adam. Even if it all falls apart tomorrow, I won’t regret it. I just hope the kids won’t be caught in the crossfire…”
She brushed away a tear with the back of her hand. “Pull it together, Irene. The kids need you strong.”
Later that evening, after a dinner where everyone pushed food around more than ate it, the triplets put their plan into action. They waited until Irene retreated to her room again, then snuck out of the house.
They scurried next door to Adam’s mansion, stretching on tiptoes to reach the doorbell.
“Uncle Adam! Uncle Adam!” they called, their small voices surprisingly commanding.
The door opened to reveal Adam’s elderly butler, who smiled at the sight of them. “Well, hello there, young visitors.”
Alex straightened his shoulders. “Is Uncle Adam home? We need to talk to him. It’s important.”
“Mr. Haven is still at the office, I’m afraid. He should be home in about half an hour. Would you like to wait inside?”
Lily nodded eagerly. “Yes! This is super duper important!”
The butler ushered them in. “I’ll fix you some milk and cookies while you wait.”
The children perched on the massive living room sofa, looking like dolls against the expensive furniture. Lucas leaned toward his brother. “Are we really doing this?”
Alex nodded once. “For Mom. We have to.”
Soon enough, they heard a car pull up outside. The triplets sat up straighter, hearts racing.
The front door opened, and Thomas wheeled Adam into the house. Adam’s eyebrows shot up when he spotted the three small figures waiting for him.
Uncle Adam!” they chorused, voices bright with nervous energy.

Chapter 377
Adam’s surprise melted into a smile. “What’s this? A surprise delegation? Does your mother know you’re here?”
Alex put on his serious face–the one that made him look like a minture businessman. “Uncle Adam, we need to talk to you about something important. More important than anything in the whole wile world!”
Laicas nodded solemnly. “It’s about Mom.”
‘It’s grown–up stuff, Lily added, her little chin lifting importantly.
The other two nodded in agreement, their expressions comically grave.
Adam bit back a smile, wheeling closer. “Well, if it’s that serious, I’m all ears.”
Alex glanced around, noticing the butler and Thomas still hovering nearby. He lowered his voice conspiratorially. “Uncle Adam, can we go somewhere private? This is a secret.”
Thomas shifted awkwardly. “Should I… make myself scarce?”
Adam nodded. “Let’s go to my room. Thomas, would you mind?”
“Not at all, sir.” Thomas pushed Adam’s wheelchair toward his private quarters, the triplets following in a solemn procession.
Lucas turned back to the butler. “Thanks for the cookies, mister. They were super good!”
Once inside Adam’s room, Alex carefully closed the door and turned the lock. He climbed onto the sofa and patted the spaces beside him. “Guys, sit here.”
When all three were settled, they faced Adam with expressions far too serious for children so young.
“Uncle Adam,” Alex began, “we have something to tell you and a big secret. A really, really huge secret.”
Adam raised an eyebrow, dark eyes glinting with amusement. “I’m listening. Scout’s honor.”
The triplets exchanged a look before Alex took a deep breath and dove in. “Uncle Adam, today Sophia grandma went to see Mom. She told Mom she would give her money if Mom would break up with you.”
Adam’s amusement vanished instantly. “She did what?” His grip tightened on the wheelchair armrests. “Grandma really said that to your mother?”
Lucas nodded vigorously. “We heard it ourselves. Mom’s been super quiet and sad ever since. She went straight to her room when we got home.”
Adam’s face softened with regret. “I’m sorry. I had no idea Grandma would pull something like that.”
He hesitated before asking, “What did your mother say to her?”
Lucas quickly reassured him. “Don’t worry, Uncle Adam! Mom didn’t say yes. She told Grandma that nobody gets to decide her feelings except her. Mom was really brave.”
