Chapter 356
The hallways of Silver City Medical Research Center buzzed with whipers. In the main conference room, a group of researchers huddled together, voices low but intense.
Did you hear? Both Dr. Sterling and Dr. Hayes resigned, a young researcher with glasses said, glancing nervously, toward the door.
How could we not know?” replied an older woman, her lab coat wrinkled from a long day. “Roberts basically drove away our two best doctors in one afternoon!”
A third researcher leaned in. “You saw how Roberts‘ daughter deleted sterling’s data? And then had the nerve to pretend she was
helping?”
“Unbelievable, someone else chimed in. “The worst part is how she food there demanding proof while her daddy made sure the security footage stayed locked away.”
The senior researcher among them shook his head. “Dr. Sterling is the most brilliant nerve treatment expert I’ve ever worked with. Her solutions are always spot–on, twice as efficient as anything Jennifer Roberts has ever produced.”
A petite woman with a neat bun whispered, “Word is she’s dating Adam Haven–you know, the CEO of Haven Enterprise.” She raised her eyebrows meaningfully. “Jennifer picked the wrong person to mess with this time.”
The conversation died instantly as Jennifer appeared in the hallway. She walked past with her chin up, pretending not to notice the sudden silence. Once she turned the corner, she clenched her fists, nails digging into her palms. This wasn’t supposed to happen The plan had been simple–make Irene look incompetent, not drive away Matthew too.
Jennifer stormed into her father’s office without knocking, her face flushed with indignation. “Dad! How could you let Matthew leave? Can’t you talk to him? Convince him to come back? He respects you–he’ll listen!”
Dr. Roberts looked up from his paperwork, eyes flashing with irritation. “Jennifer, your childish behavior was bad enough before, but now you’ve created a disaster. Do you have any idea what losing a talent like Dr. Sterling means for this center?”
“Her reputation is overblown!” Jennifer’s voice rose with frustration. Why are you taking some outsider’s side over your own
daughter?”
“Enough!” Dr. Roberts slammed his palm on the desk, making the coffee mug jump. “Do you even realize who she’s dating? Adam Haven! The most powerful family in Silver City! By deleting her data, you’ve essentially declared war on Haven Enterprise!”
Jennifer froze, her face draining of color as the implications sank in.
Dr. Roberts took a deep breath, trying to regain his composure. “Being this self–centered will catch up with you eventually. You need
to start thinking before you act.”
Without another word, Jennifer spun around and slammed the door behind her. Dr. Roberts stared at the closed door, rubbing his temples in frustration.
Back at Emerald Garden, Adam was already waiting at Irene’s doorstep when she and Alex returned home early. He immediately
noticed the tension in her face as he reached for her hand.
“You’re back early,” he said, concern creeping into his voice. “Everything okay?”
Irene managed a tired smile, squeezing his hand gently but offering no explanation.
Alex looked up at his mother’s silence and decided to take matters into his own hands. “Uncle Adam, you won’t believe what happened! Those people at the research center are so mean! Someone deleted all Mom’s files and wouldn’t admit it, but I found them and fixed everything!”

His words tumbled out as they walked inside, detailing the entire sag–Jennifer’s sabotage, Alex’s recovery of the files, the timestamps proving deliberate deletion, Dr. Roberts cover–up attemp, and finally Trene and Matthew’s resignations.
In the living room, the family’s reaction was immediate and fierce. Handon jumped to his feet, pacing back and forth. “That’s qutrageous! Some research center they’re running–maybe they should research basic ethics and human decency first!”
Adam sat beside Irene, his grip on her hand tightening slightly as he processed everything. His face remained calm, but a musele twitched in his jaw.
Wesley, usually so reserved, spoke up. “Their loss. Don’t waste your energy on people who can’t appreciate your value.”
Irene looked around at her concerned family and smiled. “Honestly, id rather know now than waste months in that toxic environment. Better to leave a place where politics matter more than patients.”
The doorbell interrupted their conversation. Matthew stood awkwardly on the threshold, glancing at the assembled family before focusing on Irene.
“I quit too,” he said simply, his eyes briefly noting Adam and Irene’s intertwined hands before he nodded respectfully. “I’m sorry about all this. I was the one who recommended the center to you–I feel responsible.”
“It’s not your fault,” Irene replied softly, watching Matthew exchange easy greetings with everyone. It was clear he was already familiar with her family.
“Thank you for standing by Irene today,” Adam said sincerely, the two men exchanging a nod of mutual respect.
The triplets, sensing the heavy mood, immediately launched into their diversion tactics. Lucas dramatically mimicked Jennifer’s shocked face when the deleted files reappeared. Lily spun a wild tale about “bad guys getting zapped until their hair stood straight up, complete with sound effects that had everyone laughing.
Later that evening, Irene adjusted the electrodes on Adam’s legs during their regular treatment session. The quiet intimacy of his room provided a sanctuary after the day’s chaos. She leaned against his shoulder with a sigh. “What a day.”
Adam wrapped his arm around her waist, his voice gentle. “What are you thinking of doing now that you’ve left the center?”
“I haven’t really planned that far,” Irene said, focusing on the treatment parameters. “Maybe take some time off, spend more time
with the kids.”
“That sounds perfect,” Adam kissed the top of her head. “You’ve been pushing yourself too hard. And you know I’m here for whatever
you need.”
Irene looked up with a smile. “Doctors don’t typically take extended vacations, you know.”
“Whatever makes you happy,” Adam said, his expression suddenly serious, “Whatever you want to do next, I’ll back you one hundred
percent.”
