Chapter 105

Morning sunlight warmed Emerald Garden Estate as Irene led her three children toward Adam’s villa. The triplets bounced alongside her, Alex constantly scanning the ground for any soccer balls that might tempt his mother into another windowbreaking disaster.

Mom, did they fix it already?Lucas asked, practically skipping with curiosity,

“We’ll see,Irene replied, already calculating the repair cost in her head.

Thomas opened the door before they even knocked, eyeing their approach with obvious amusement.

Dr. Sterling, rest assured, this glass is much sturdier than the previous one,he said with a barely hidden smirk as they inspected the newly repaired window.

Irene shot him a death glare. I’m not planning to play soccer again, thank you very much. She made a mental note to maybe forgetThomas’s dinner tonight.

That’s okay, Mom. We could always try the secondfloor windows!Lucas piped up, earning giggles from his siblings.

You little monsters!Irene lunged at them, but the triplets scattered like startled birds, darting around furniture with surprising

speed.

Too slow, Mom!Álex called from behind a sofa.

Stand still, you brats!Irene called out, her threat undermined by laughter. Or I swear I’ll spank those little butts!

The usually quiet villa filled with squeals and laughter. Thomas leaned against the doorframe, watching with amusement. Look at you, Dr. Sterling. Total kid at heart.

Adam rolled in on his wheelchair, drawn by the commotion. His face softened seeing this playful side of his normally puttogether neighbor.

After a few more minutes, Irene finally gave up, bending forward to catch her breath. Enough! Water break.

As the kids gulped down water, Adam wheeled closer. No hospital today?

Not right now. There’s that sayinga hundred days to heal broken bones.Brandon’s legs aren’t bouncing back anytime soon.Something flickered behind her eyes as she watched her children.

This afternoon, she said suddenly, you three should go with Greatgrandfather to visit the hospital.

The triplets exchanged curious glances but didn’t protest.

Irene kept her face neutral, surprised at her own suggestion. Part of her still wanted to keep the kids as far from the Sterling family as possible. But the way Brandon had stood up to Richard, defending her when he had nothing to gainthat wasn’t something she could just ignore.

Maybe Brandon was different. Maybe he actually meant what he’d said about wanting to be there for her. And if there was even a chance he was sincere, shouldn’t the kids at least know one uncle who wasn’t terrible?

She wasn’t ready to give Brandon full access to her life. Not yet. But letting the kids visit with Joseph there to supervisethat felt like a small step she could take without risking too much.

Chapter 105

That afternoon, James dropped Joseph and the triplets at Silver City Private Medical Center.

Remember what your mother said,Joseph reminded them. Hospital rules. No running, no shouting.

Yes, Greatgrandfather, they chorused in exaggerated whispers that carried halfway across the parking lot.

Henry opened Brandon’s door, his eyes widening at the sight of the triplets.

Brandon glanced up from his phone, his expression freezing in shock What the-?

Joseph grinned. What’s with the face? Irene sent them.

The surprise on Brandon’s face melted into pure delight. I justI’m just happy! He beamed at the children. Come here, kids! Let your uncle get a good look at you!

Brandon could hardly believe it. When he’d mentioned the kids to Irene, he’d just thrown it out there, not expecting anything. But here they wereproof that behind all Irene’s cold shoulders, she’d actually listened.

The triplets, however, didn’t rush forward. They stayed close to Joseph, studying Brandon with wary eyes.

Joseph gently nudged them. Alex, Lucas, Lily, say hello to your uncle. He’s your mother’s second brother.

Brandon, unfazed by their caution, remained enthusiastic. I told your mom I wanted to give you some racing car models. He turned to Henry. Grab those packages from the closet, would you?

Henry quickly retrieved three wrapped packages. Limited edition racing models for the boys,Brandon explained. And a collector’s doll from Milan for the little lady.

Alex and Lucas couldn’t hide their interest, but none of them reached out.

Mom says we can’t take things from strangers,Alex stated firmly, despite his obvious desire for the cars. Lucas and Lily nodded in solidarity.

Henry crouched down to their level. He’s not really a stranger though, is he? Your mom sent you here specifically to see your uncle These are just welcome gifts from family. You wouldn’t want to disappoint your mom and uncle, would you?

The triplets did their silent conference thing againminute facial twitches and subtle eye movements. Finally, Alex stepped forward and carefully accepted the race car model.

Thank you, Uncle,he said clearly.

Lucas and Lily followed his lead. Thank you, Uncle!they echoed, their faces brightening.

Brandon felt something catch in his throat at that simple word-Uncle.Two syllables that hit him hard. They’d accepted him as family. He hadn’t realized how badly he wanted that until this moment.

As the children explored their gifts, Brandon noticed Alex staring at a framed photograph on the bedside tableBrandon at his last major race, trophy raised high on the winner’s podium.
