An hour later Cyrus walks in noticeably without his mate. I welcome the break from paperwork, assignment sheets, and the last thing I put off, the payment of the celebration of life. Not that I don’t want to pay it, I just don’t want to go there right now mentally.

He takes a seat in front of my desk. “You tell me, it’s all your fault.” Cyrus leans back in his chair, a challenging look in his gaze.

“My fault? How is whatever it is that you did my fault?” I don’t think I can describe how confused I am and how high my eyebrows must be.

“I didn’t blow it up. I made a hole like you asked, then some aftershocks happened and then a thing with a thing afterward. Point is, I’m technically an overachiever in this situation. You asked for one hole and now you have two.” He runs his fingers through his dark curls and leans further back in his chair like he doesn’t have a care in the world.

“I was thinking that the staff should have their own separate building for living quarters. It wouldn’t need to be big but then they could rest without hearing all the noises from the heat rooms and the Alpha’s could just call them with needs and keep them updated.” Ayla mind–links me, interrupting my murderous thoughts.

“So, you want two buildings?” I asked, afraid Lalready knew the answer.

“Yes, and maybe a pool.”

“You’re lucky that having another hole in the ground won’t be a problem.” I groan, wiping my hand over my face and grabbing the top of my head, closing my eyes and trying not to lose it.

“Oh really? Why is that?” Cyrus asks and I open my eyes to see him grinning.

“Apparently Ayla now wants a separate building for the staff and potential a pool. You wouldn’t know anything about that would you?” I shake my head and roll my eyes, knowing I have been outplayed by him.

“Now that you’re here, do you have any updates for me?” I haven’t heard from any of my circle that we made any progress on the burner phone number somewhere in our pack and I don’t think I will be able to settle down until I have an answer.

“Wonderful.” I sigh again and put my feet up on my desk. My brain hurts too much to continue with the paperwork at this point.

“We need to sit and think of potential suspects. Maybe we can come up with a list to narrow it down.” Cyrus suggestion is sound, although I have done it in my head a million times.

“Who in the pack had reason to come after your father? Your sister’s abduction was before your role as alpha.”

“Maybe they didn’t take her to get to my father. Perhaps someone in our pack linked to the trafficking ring chose to abduct her because she was the Alpha’s daughter, for the irony. She wasn’t the only teen pup then; she was targeted for her name.
