“Why is he strapped to the bed? Is that really necessary? They are a leather straps for fate sakes.” I turn and scowl at Eric. He knows how I feel

about the use of restraints.

“It was necessary to stop him from moving around so much. We could not have him pulling but I hate to see it.

out his lines, Alpha Thane.” I know it makes sense;

“Maybe he was trying to wrap is arms around his mate. I’m sure they could feel the bond pulling them together whether he was alert or not. She spent most of her time on top of him anyway. Please, release him.” I turn and look over at Amani, nodding at her and trying my best to make her feel welcomed despite my mini blow up here.

I look over at Damon and he is very much naked and…well he is aware his mate is here.

“And cover that up.” I wave my hand in Damon’s direction while his mate giggles and he rolls his eyes. At least his eyes are working.

“Don’t bolt up and try to eat me because I am in the room with your unmarked mate either. I know the feeling.” I remind him.

“I won’t. I am good. I swear.” Damon answers as they release the straps over his arm and legs and cover him with a blanket.

If you had asked me five days ago while they were pumping him full of blood and healing his arm if he would make it, I would’ve lied. It has been a rough five days with him, but I’m grateful for how he is today.

“Eric, can you give him a run down on all you and your team had to do and where he goes from here?”

“Yes. Five days ago, you came in near death. Your arm here was sliced open with an exposed bone. You had a stab wound to your left upper chest here which caused a pneumothorax. Essentially you were down to one lung as your chest cavity was filling with blood as well. You shouldn’t have made it here. Of course, there are all the contusions and hematomas and what not. A few fractured ribs…. ruptured ear drum… there was also a broken periorbital bone, which means your face was broken. We drained your chest cavity, and we used our healing gifting as much as we could and here you are.”

I am grateful Eric is leaving out the symptoms he was experiencing and how awful it was to make him comfortable. I am also relieved he did not mention Damon’s mate watching most of it.

“Moving forward, your body should start healing quicker now that you are alert. We need to get you from IV nutrition to oral. I will have something easy delivered soon. If you can manage it, we will move the process along.”

Damon lifts his arms and inspects them as his massive gash is now a well approximated incision with staples and now that he is alert, his healing will accelerate and soon the gash will be a faint line. He lifts the blanket looking before feeling his side.

“Amani, would you like a meal tray now?” I ask. Damon’s wolf is probably riding him hard to provide for his mate.

“Yes, I would, thank you.” Eric nods and leaves the room. I may have food delivered later from town. He probably would prefer meat to soup.

“Have you two had the opportunity to talk about your living situation? I assume you’re planning to stay here with us. Damon has an apartment within the packhouse, but we move our mated shifters out.” I have never been within Damon’s apartment but given his history I have no idea what she will be getting into.

“We haven’t really…” Damon starts but is interrupted by his mate.

“Yes, I am staying. I will stay with him, and we will work it out from there. I noticed the pack is quite large, that should work in our favor.” Assertive. I like it for him.

“It is. We have apartment buildings in town. We may even have a few cabins depending on what you two are looking for. Talk it over once he can leave, we will aid you however we can. I know that Ayla is looking forward to getting to know you.” Getting to know Amani and the heat

clinic/hostel is all she has been talking about. I am happy it is taking her mind off the trafficking ring and the mole within the pack.

It has taken my mind off nothing. Especially since I had to lift the travel ban and am now working with an arborist about trees that Ayla feels are familiar to where she is from. She was raised in a hidden, nameless pack making it extremely difficult.

We are also watching Alpha Stevens, spying on the other alliance members, digging into the Triad group, Kian and his brothers, and analyzing bank and phone records. I’m sure there is more I am forgetting…. oh and we are trying to prepare for a pup.

What else could happen? It is already too much as it is.

“I already have Cyrus and Raven living with me so do not get any ideas.” I cut my eyes over to Damon and see him laugh and then he groans slightly trying to hide it from his mate with a cough.

“Ahhh yes, naked number one, and naked number two. Quite the duo. I’ve been warned, don’t worry.” Amani laughs and shakes her head. The fact she has made it this long within this pack is a miracle.
