Thane
A fucking pipe bomb. Cyrus sits in the war room inspecting it. Eric and volunteers worked through the night trying to help the wounded and save the lives of four shifters. They were unsuccessful. I need to meet with their families at some point..
“This thing is amateur. They know the basics, but any shifter with sense could make it. The dickwad either doesn’t know anything beyond basic explosives, or they are lazy.”
“We had sensors at the border, and we rotated in shifts, never leaving it open. This explosion was an inside job, and whoever falled at the car bomb and poisoned me.” I stare out the window, watching the smoke from the bomb site weave through the air. Four lives were lost. It could have been us.
I sigh and hold my head low, I am trying to contain the rage that is boiling up within me. Ronan is snarling and wants blood. I feel the same. I mind–link Tyler to look for any camera footage from any buildings in the area. Cyrus is working on finger–printing the bomb to compare it to birth and transfer records within the pack, but that will take a while, and we may not find our culprit.
My head is pounding, and my jaw is tight. I feel as though I could break my teeth from the clenching I am currently doing.
How the fuck are we going to find this guy Cyrus!” I kick over a chair as I walk back to the desk and sit down, closing my eyes and thinking
“We will find him. Thane.”
“I hope you’re right.” I squeeze my fist over my mouth, attempting to keep my fans in and to stop myself from snarling and
completely losing it.
“I know I am right, your royal asshole–ness,” Cyrus studies what is left of the pipe. A small piece, but it is our only clue.
“We need to review any pack records about dishonorable discharges, firings, and any about my father’s beta and his followers. I swipe everything off the desk and put my elbows on top of it, resting my forehead and straining for ideas.
“That will take a long time Thane.”
“I know.” I mind–linked Damon with the assignment and permitted him to form a team.
I will need another pack meeting now. We just got through swearing that we would keep them safe from the ring, but we are struck from the inside. I can’t fight a war on multiple fronts. I may need to get the alliance involved, but that brings us back to the trafficking ring. I may not get support if they think I am spread too thin with this internal conflict. Plus, it makes us appear weak and I don’t like it.
“I’ve got nothing on the piece Thane.” Cyrus sighs and his words are my breaking point. I stand quickly and flip my desk out of anger before 1 can think and then let off a barrage of curse words.
I’m pacing around the room now, trying to contain my wolf, contain my emotions, and fight these fights. I have the safety of so many depending on it. I don’t know how my father did this for as long as he did and I wish he was here for guidance.
“Activate emergency procedures. Pack curfew is in place until further notice. Any in this pack will be questioned and interviewed. You are expected to comply with the investigation into tonight’s horrific events. No shifters in and no shifters out without my approval Pack lockdown until further notice. Tumn in anything suspicious. This is more likely on inside job.”
I mind–link the pack the immediate plan and try to figure out how and when to address them that won’t have them in a panic after tonight’s events. I would be less likely to go to a ceremony if people were just murdered at one.
I take a seat in a chair, and I slowly start to open the bond back up. Not hearing from Ayla or feeling her emotions has been torture, but I didn’t need her to feel my emotions throughout the process of looking for the wounded and the dead. I slightly tug on the bond and wait but she doesn’t tug back. I can feel her, but she clearly isn’t happy with me. I don’t blame her.
Iow the hurt in her eye when I sent her away and I suspect it may take a few conversations for her to understand where I am coming from.
“They could have blown it when I was on the dance floor. I am clearly the target, so why wait?” I have my forehead propped up on my thumbs rambling to myself trying to sort al of these thoughts out.
“They are obviously toying with you or didn’t see you leave.” Cyrus suggests as he stares at the wall, lost in thoughts himself
“Could it be that simple? Didn’t see me leave. This couldn’t be detonated remotely. We need to get a list of who was around the area before it
“I would invite another shifter from the outside to lead the investigation unbiasedly but I do up that much control.” I sigh as I put the back of my head against the wall.
“I don’t think sitting here any longer is going to produce anymore ideas. We are exhausted and mentally drained. You need to get some sleep before you address the pack and from what I hear from Raven, Ayla hasn’t left her nest. You’re needed at home brother.”
“Oh, I forgot about your damn speech. Now I’m pissed again.” I groan walking down the stairs and out the pack house with Cyrus.
