The Lost Heiress: Never Forgiven (Sierra Xander) novel Chapter 498

As they walked out of the Wynn family estate, Mateo finally spoke. “I’m going to the Treno residence. You coming?”

Draven glanced at him, letting out a soft sigh. “Going there won’t change anything.”

Worse, showing up now would just make things even more awkward.

“I’m going anyway.”

Mateo knew all the logic, but his heart wouldn’t let it go.

“I’ll go with you,” Draven said.

They were both quiet during the drive. After a long silence, Mateo finally asked, “Whose side are you on?”

Draven didn’t answer until they got out of the car. Only then did he say, “I stand with whoever’s right.”

And this time, it couldn’t be clearer.

Johnathan had nearly died. Maddox knew the real culprit was still out there and said nothing. That wasn’t how brothers were supposed to act.

“Draven, when Orien wasn’t around and I got my ass beat by my old man, Maddox was the one who bailed me out. Every time I screwed up, it was Maddox who cleaned up the mess.”

Mateo was mostly talking to himself.

Draven didn’t say a word. By then, they’d arrived at the Treno estate.

Maddox was already in the garden, waiting with tea. It was like he’d known they would come. He poured them each a cup and said, “Let’s skip the alcohol tonight.”

Neither of them touched their cups. They just sat in silence.

In the end, Maddox spoke first. He didn’t look at them. His eyes stayed fixed on the teapot in front of him.

“It’s been over twenty years now, hasn’t it? I still remember the first time we got into a fight.”

They’d all gone to the same school. Everyone knew each other’s backgrounds. As kids, they’d been full of pride, too arrogant to get along—until they all ended up on the same side in a brawl.

He couldn’t even remember what had started it. All he knew was that he, Mateo, Draven, and Stone had gotten into it with a group of middle schoolers from next door.

The kids at that school weren’t ordinary. No one was afraid of anyone. They were all golden boys, heirs to powerful families. Even when they were outnumbered by older kids, none of them backed down.
