For a brief moment, White was ready to fight. He’d heard Johnathan was good — and honestly, he wanted to test that for himself.
But in the end, Johnathan held back. Maybe he didn’t want to escalate things and make the situation with Sierra worse. He turned and walked away.
Watching Johnathan storm off, clearly furious yet helpless, White was in the best mood he’d been in for days.
Nothing was more satisfying than watching your enemy unravel.
Once Johnathan was gone, Sierra spoke.
“Sorry. I dragged you into this.”
“What are you saying? We’re friends, aren’t we?”
White smiled at her. “But really — what’s going on between you two? Still not patched things up?”
Sierra shook her head, her expression pained.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I used to like him so much, but now I just feel irritated every time I see him. All his strengths suddenly feel like flaws. I don’t know how to explain it.”
Her emotions visibly frayed. White jumped in quickly.
“I get it. This is normal. Maybe the love you thought you had for him wasn’t real. You two are really different. You’re patient and gentle. He’s overbearing. I always wondered how you two even ended up together. Maybe he just showed up when you were at your most vulnerable, and you mistook that for love. But now you’re stronger, more independent. His need for control is suffocating, and that’s what’s driving your resentment.”
It had to be said — White was good.
His words were subtly manipulative, enough to shake anyone with a weaker will.
Sierra felt a wave of cold amusement, but her eyes showed only confusion.
“Is that really what it is?”
“Yes.”
White answered with certainty.
“So what should I do? I really can’t stand being around him anymore. But I know it’s wrong to feel this way. I shouldn’t treat him like this.”
Sierra’s expression turned into a mix of pain and struggle.
White took the opening.
“Don’t force yourself. You’ll only make yourself more miserable. And it’s not fair to him either. Maybe it’s time to really think about what you want.”
He didn’t say the words “break up,” but every sentence pointed toward it.
“What I want…” Sierra repeated under her breath. White continued to nudge her.
“Exactly. Think about it. Do you want to stay tangled in this painful mess — or step into something bigger, something freer?”
Sierra seemed to think deeply for a moment, then shook her head.
“No. You don’t know him like I do.”
“He has a strong need for control. If he finds out I want to leave, he won’t allow it.”
