Chapter 463 The Switch
Elaine finally looked satisfied for once.
Moments later, another hotel staff member brought over the ring that had been previously set aside and placed it in front of her.
“Ms. Lynn, your ring.”
The staff opened the ring box. Elaine glanced inside–seeing it was identical to the one she’d worn earlier, she didn’t think twice before sliding it back onto her finger.
Meanwhile-
Outside the hotel-
Nolan’s people had already retrieved the real ring. “Ms. Eliza, Mr. Hayes, we’ve got it.”
The box opened to reveal the very ring Nolan had once given her.
Eliza had worn it countless times–she recognized every detail.
“You really are clever.”
Even Nolan hadn’t expected Eliza to retrieve the ring this way.
“By the time they realize that’s a fake, we’ll be long gone. And there won’t be any evidence pointing to us. Just giving them a taste of their own medicine.”
That’s exactly what Henry had said back when he stole it from them.
Eliza slipped the ring onto her finger and left with Nolan.
Back inside-
Henry scanned the banquet hall, but there was no sign of Nolan or Eliza. “Where are they?”
“They must’ve left because of what Ms. Lynn said. We looked everywhere just now, and couldn’t find them.”
“No way.”
Henry’s tone was calm. “Eliza’s not the petty type. She wouldn’t leave just because of that.”
“But we already had Ms. Lynn walk circles around those jewelry appraisers. None of them seemed to notice anything off.”
They’d poured all this time, money, and their finest treasures into attracting top appraisers–experts who might uncover the secret behind the ring.
If even these experts couldn’t detect anything wrong, then no matter how long they stared, it’d be pointless.
Henry asked, “Where’s Ms. Lynn now?”
He had already told Elaine to mingle and meet as many jewelry appraisers as possible. But she’d suddenly disappeared.
Chapter 163 The Switch
“She went backstage with a staff member just now. She should be back out any minutes
Right as the assistant finished, Elaine stepped back into the room.
She had changed clothes, and now the ring on her finger stood out even more.
Henry’s brow tightened.
“Who told her to change?”
“Um…”
The assistant wasn’t by Elaine’s side the whole time, so he didn’t know what had happened.
Elaine, on the other hand, carried herself with composure, chatting with the appraisers and occasionally raising her hand to show off the ring.
Henry headed toward her.
Elaine had just lifted her hand again when Henry grabbed her wrist.
Elaine’s expression shifted. “Henry, what are you doing?”
“Did you take off this ring?”
With others nearby, Elaine forced herself to keep up appearances. “I took it off while changing. The hotel. staff held onto it for me. What’s the matter?”
She tried to pull her hand back, but Henry took the ring off her finger instead.
“Henry!”
Elaine’s face darkened..
There were so many people around, and yet Henry didn’t care one bit about saving her face.
He examined the ring for only a moment before instantly recognizing it–it was the fake he’d once used to deceive Nolan and Eliza.
“Idiot,” Henry said coldly.
