Chapter 462 A Trap Behind the Curtain
Elaine cast Eliza a deliberately taunting look before leaning in and whispering near her car I want you and Nolan to break off your engagement. I want Nolan to publicly apologize to me on a global livestream and swear he’ll only ever marry me. If Ms. Eliza can agree to that, I’ll find a way to get that ring back into entr hands.”
Eliza’s expression instantly turned cold.
Elaine knew full well this was impossible, yet she said it anyway–clearly hoping to see Eliza humiliated.
Eliza replied calmly, “If you like the ring that much, Ms. Lynn, then I suggest you hold on to it tightly. Don’t you dare lose it.”
With that, she took Nolan’s hand and left without another word.
Elaine scowled as she watched them go.
She’d expected Eliza to beg, to compromise for the ring–but Eliza had barely listened before walking away
At that moment, Henry appeared beside her.
Elaine’s tone darkened. “Didn’t you say this ring would hold Eliza back? From what I saw, it’s not that powerful after all.”
“They do want the ring,” Henry said calmly. “But the conditions you laid out were far too ridiculous. For Eliza, whether it’s the ring or anything else–it’s all just material. She’d never trade someone she loves, and who loves her, just for something like that. That’s what sets the two of you apart.”
Elaine might give someone up for what she wanted–but Eliza wouldn’t.
“I don’t believe she can actually take this ring from me,” Elaine scoffed. “Unless she chops off my hand, I’ll never let her have it.”
She spun on her heel and left.
Back in the banquet hall, Eliza pulled Nolan into a quiet corner.
“I’ll go get that ring back for you,” Nolan said.
“Come back here. Don’t go charging off.”
Eliza grabbed his arm, holding him still.
Nolan frowned. “Didn’t you say you wanted that ring? I’ll take it from her.”
“In front of all these people? What, you’re going to snatch it off her finger in public?” Eliza gave him a look. “Let me handle it.”
She had known Henry wouldn’t let them take the ring easily.
That’s why she’d already prepared a backup plan.
“Just watch. We’ll have the ring soon enough.”
About half an hour passed. Elaine still hadn’t seen Eliza or Nolan again.
Chapter 462 A Trap Behind the Curtains
Had they given up and left?
Just then, a waiter accidentally bumped into her.
Red wine spilled all over her gown before she could react.
“Ah!”
Elaine’s face darkened. “Watch where you’re going!”
This was a high–profile event–what if her expensive dress had been ruined?
She looked down.
Sure enough, the wine had soaked into the fabric, ruining the once–beautiful gown.
People nearby turned to look, and though she wanted to lash out, Elaine knew she had to keep her cool.
The waiter quickly stepped forward and said, “I’m terribly sorry, Ms. Lynn. Please let me escort you to change into something fresh.”
He motioned for her to follow him backstage.
Elaine dusted off her dress and followed.
