Chapter 76
“But this doesn’t make sense,” I say.
“What doesn’t make sense?” Christian asks me.
“Well, if they’re not accounting for the food costs, then eventually. they’ll they bankrupt the pack, right?”
“Maybe yes, maybe no,” he says.
“It depends on if they’re also hiding income, making the pack look less profitable that it is,” Alpha Christina says.
“Which they are,” Alpha Sebastian says.
“It was Dorian who asked for the manual receipts, right?” Alpha Christina asks.
“Yes. He said he didn’t want to deal with the system.”
“How sure are you about your numbers?” she asks me.
“One hundred percent positive,” I say.
She turns and looks at Christian. I look between the two of them.
“Mom,” he says is a near growl.
“How would you feel about Enya and I interviewing Dorian?”
What? Me?
“No! No way! I am not putting her at risk. If he is responsible for the

death of her father, he won’t hesitate to kill her,” he says inmediately
Part of me feels thankful that he’s being so protective, but the other part wonders if he thinks I’m not capable of handling myself
“First, we’ve seen Enya against Sebastiana. She’s very good a habla hand combat. But second, do you really think I would let anything happen to her, Christian?” his mother says, sounding mildly offended
I look at him. He looks at me and I see the war in his eyes
“Why me? Why not Shane?” I ask her
She turns and smiles at me. It’s the haughty smile of someone who has been underestimated in her life.
“I’m assuming Dorian doesn’t think much of women in general fe seen his type in life and at the Academy. They tend to underestimate women and our ability to get the information we want. You, teng underage, would be laughable, by his standards. I’m guessing he does t know you kept your own records?”
“He never asked, so I never told him.” I say
“Right. He underestimated you,” she said. “That’s his downfall. He’d never assume that we, two women, were smart enough to figure out what he did. But we are and we did. Now, we confront him, we piss him off, and we make him confess,” she says, her tone almost feral
I turn and look at Christian.
“Enya,” he begins, his tone full of warning and the decisive no he’s about to give me.
