Chapter 6
Leslie’s POVI
Behind me, I heard Bradley yell.
“Leslie, what the hell are you doing?”
Beside him, Sabrina screamed next, her voice filled with pure panic.
However, the collision I had expected never occurred–instead, a once–familiar embrace wrapped tightly around me and my
son.
Bradley’s arms held us close, his breath ragged. “Leslie, I’ve really lost it this time, haven’t 17
But before I could even absorb the impact of those words, someone shoved him aside. I looked up and saw Sean kneeling in front of us.
My husband’s sharp suit was perfect, but his eyes told a different story. His brows were furrowed with concern as he glanced over me and Leon, his hands moving swiftly but softly.l
Leon and I both threw ourselves at him like our lives depended on it.
“Sean “I sobbed, clinging to his neck.
“Daddy…” Lean whimpered, burying his face in Sean’s chest.
Sean held us close. He didn’t say anything at first, just rested his cheek against my shoulder. I could feel the storm building inside him. His whole body was tense, as if he were holding back an explosion.
“I was just trying to protect Leon,” I whispered, my voice cracking. “I wasn’t thinking straight.”
Sean let out a shaky breath and pulled back enough to look at me.
“Fucking hell, you scared me, Leslie! What if Rick hadn’t slammed the brakes in time? I would’ve lost you both!”
I reached up and cupped his face, trying to soothe him. “Rick used to drive for special forces, remember? He could’ve dodged
a missile if he had to.“E
That earned me a dry laugh, but it didn’t last long. Sean suddenly leaned down and gave my shoulder a firm bite–not hard enough to hurt, but enough to jolt me.
“If you ever do something this reckless again,” he murmured, “I’ll make sure you remember what fear really feels like ”
Just a few feet away, Bradley was still crumpled on the pavement. For someone who once freaked out over a smudge on his watch, he hadn’t even tried to get up. He was staring at us like we were aliens dropped out of the sky, face pale and twisted with disbelief.
“Leslie.” he finally rasped. “You better start explaining. Who the hell is that man?”
Then, all of a sudden, Bradley lurched to his feet, his voice booming. “You actually married someone else?! Who the hell said you could go off and let another guy raise my son? Did I give you permission to do that?!”
Sean stood up, slow and controlled, but his presence was like a blade slicing through the air.
“Your son?” he repeated, his voice like ice. “Stepfather?“W
Bradley finally looked Sean in the face.
And his whole expression collapsed. He went ghost–white.
“Sean Mercer?!”
Sean’s brow ticked up slightly. “Bradley Goodman of Verdant Corp., right?”
Bradley’s mouth opened, then closed. Nothing came out..
Sean didn’t give him a second more.K
“Harbor City doesn’t welcome you,” he said, flat and final.
Then he turned to Rick. “Take Leon to the car.?!
Bradley didn’t move. He stood there, frozen, watching everything he believed he controlled slip away from him. Still clutching at his remaining illusions, he attempted to salvage the moment.
“Mr. Mercer, listen, Leslie’s my ex–girlfriend. We broke up fast, and I had no idea she was pregnant.”
