Just One Kiss Before Divorcing Me (Martin and Calvin) novel Chapter 76

Ch 76

Wil

He stood staring at Calvin; his friend didn’t seem to know what to do right this minute in time. But Wil had to find a way to get him to snap out of his obsession; it was obviously still with him. Though Wil could see that it was clearly less than what it had been before, because there was much less anger within the man.

Calvin had gone off on his own and found out the truth of who Marilyn was, albeit illegally so. He now knew that Calvin not only knew the truth, but also knew where Marilyn/Marrin lived and had children with him. Yet he had not lost control of himself.

He hadn’t gone off in a full fit of anger and dragged her and the twins back here, to Cliffside, to make them be near him. So something had changed inside of Calvin’s mind where she and the children were concerned.

Had the full reality of what he’d done to her as Marilyn, finally dawned on Calvin?

He was standing here arguing with Calvin not only to make a point to the man, but to see his actual reaction to it. There was no blowing of a gasket, no yelling and screaming and now charging off half–c****d to get what he wanted, regardless of what she would want. It appeared to Wil that Calvin had in fact dealt with this knowledge, and managed to stay somewhat in control of himself.

“Why didn’t you go after her and drag her back here? Make her stand next to you? That is what you wanted to do to her, right? After all, she fooled you, stole your money and made you suffer and grieve the loss of her on purpose,” he stated, pushing all the buttons that would normally set Calvin’s obsession off.

Calvin frowned at him now, “Because she is actually Marrin, and not an impostor.” Calvin stated right back. Marrin is who you hate Calvin, with a passion at that, for deceiving you in that marriage, and tricking you into thinking she was dead.” Wil pushed his friend further.

“I don’t hate Marrin, Wil…” he sighed. “I guess… I just got lost in my own grief, and needed someone to blame, other than myself, for all that happened.”

“Really, just like that? You can let all that anger and hate go… I don’t believe you, to be honest. You could just be saying anything to me right now, to try and calm me down and not have me quit.” Will put to him his thoughts.

“I’m not,” Calvin stated simply. “When I saw the twins…” he ran a hand through his hair. “I knew right then, I was in the wrong, and just how badly I have screwed all of this up. That my approaching her in that manner was so very wrong.” He closed his eyes and shook his head a little before looking back at Wil.

“I have spent the past two weeks telling myself she is Marrin, Marilyn is Marrin, that she is not someone out to attach themselves to me, or only after my money. That, and I’ve actually gotten her medical records as well. Seen her diagnosis… AmnesiaHe huffed and Wil knew why the huff. It was because Calvin hated that word or those that claimed to have it.

It is real, and she actually doesn’t know who I am to her. But I now know who she is, Wil. Marrin loved me once. I can get Marilyn to love me as well. It’s likely just a matter of time and showing her I’m not a tyrant or her abusive ex–husband is all, This charity…

“Was to show her and the boys, I meant them no harm. That I want to help them, show them I’m a good

person, kind and generous. I am doing this in an effort to get them to see me in a new light, before approaching them.

A new light… I don’t think you achieved that, Calvin, just digging a deeper hole for yourself is all Wi

muttered.

“Tell me Wil, why did she call you a liar? What was that about? Calvin asked him.

Wil stood staring at him. The man kind of looked a bit defeated to him, not something he’d seen in a very long time, not since before he’d twisted everything up inside his own mind.

“Marilyn voluntarily allowed the boys to be DNA tested against you, when I asked her too. She and her lawyer already suspected you were going to be the boy’s father. The timeline added up for her and, well, all she saw was your anger and relentless abusiveness. But still, I guess with not actually knowing because of her amnesia… she wanted to actually know the truth of it herself.”

“What?” Calvin stared at him now, more than shocked.

“Mm.” Wil nodded and sat down in his chair. It seemed they were going to be able to hold a normal conversation about this. “She knows Calvin. The car she had that accident in, it had Texas number plates. It was a hire car, and she also knows when she lost her memory. Eight years ago, the boys, they also look just

like you.

“She may not have Marrin’s memories, but she’s not stupid or blind. Everything you did, your obsession, that just confirmed in her mind she’d left you, ran away and changed who she was to hide from you; her abusive ex–husband, it’s a sound theory.” Wil stated, and it was, anyone in her situation would have made that

“How’d she take it?Calvin muttered.

“About as well as one could expect, after being hospitalised by you. Both her and Liam stated none of what I presented to them was proof that you weren’t cruel, vicious or abusive behind closed doors… I couldn’t… and can’t actually prove that. Only Marilyn getting her memories back will actually prove that to her.”

“No,” Wil cut him off. “You can’t, she’ll never believe you, and she shouldn’t, not with what she’s dealt with from you. If she did just suddenly believe you… I’d not believe her intentions, have to think she was lying in order to get your money,” Will stated.

“I’m certain you do, but I don’t know if she will be, to be honest. I had gotten her to the point where she was willing to acknowledge you as the boy’s father, and she was willingly going to give me a picture of them too,

seen to have let your obsession go. That is what she called me a liar about, because just two weeks after the

DNA results were in, your own name and company were suddenly appearing at the boys‘ school, showed her I

lied about not telling you.”

“But you didn’t tell me,” Calvin muttered.

“I’m aware of that, and so is her lawyer. Liam believes you illegally obtained that information, which you did. That’s the real issue for you now. Marilyn isn’t going to just state she’ll not press charges because you’re the twins‘ father or there is proof she was Marrin, because she’s now of the opinion you’re abusive and cruel, so you can stop thinking that, that will save you. It’s not going to, because Marilyn is not actually Marrin.”

He held up a hand to stop Calvin’s retort, “Marilyn is Marrin’s alter ego, so to speak. She has lived a very different life with no memories of being Marrin. So, regardless of DNA results, that proves she was once Marrin, because the boys are yours and hers. Marrin does not in fact exist for her at all. That is what you need to understand Calvin, and come to terms with.”

He watched Calvin huff now and slowly nod his head. “I am trying to do just that, it’s not so easy ignoring the obsession. I understand it’s all my fault Wil, but for so long I’ve been living with it. Now, even though I know the truth, and I want to go there to her, to the boys. I am denying that with all I have.

“I have managed not to go there and to stay away from her. I am in fact trying to show her I’m not a monster. It’s not something that will just go away overnight, but I am actively trying to let it go, doing my best to let it go. I want to let it go completely.

“I don’t want to hurt her, and I want them back in my life. I’m trying to do it the right way. I guess seeing the boys, it got the better of me once more.” Calvin sighed heavily. “I will do better.”
