Chapter 171
Jordan and Stella rushed to the rooftop, where there were quite a few cops and negotiators already.
When Joan saw Jordan, she lit up, but the moment she noticed Stella, her smile faded. “Why did you bring her here? Are you trying to humiliate me?”
Jordan held Stella’s hand tightly. “She’s my wife, and she is worried about you, so she came along. Nobody wants to humiliate you.”
Joan forced a laugh. “Well, i don’t think so. Did you tell her about what happened to me?”
“Yeah, I told her. If you hadn’t done what you did, I wouldn’t have said anything. As I said before, I didn’t even want you to know. I only let you misunderstand because we are friends. I hope you’ll understand it.”
Joan laughed again. “So, you really don’t have even the slightest bit of romantic feelings for me, do you?”
“Yes.”
Stella’s heart trembled. She thought he was so direct. She instinctively tugged on Jordan’s arm and whispered, “Don’t push her. She might do something crazy.”
“If I don’t just be honest with her now and keep lying, it’ll only get messier when she comes down. Better to lay it all out at once,” Jordan said.
It was cruel. But Stella understood what Jordan meant.
“Why? Why?” Joan cried out in utter despair.
Jordan looked straight into her eyes. “I’ve told you from the very beginning–I don’t like you. I already have someone I love. But you just kept trying to win me over.
“When you do bad things, karma catches up with you. If you hadn’t made those wrong choices, you wouldn’t be in this situation now. You messed up, so you have to face the consequences. You made everyone up here and wasted all our time…”
Stella couldn’t believe what she heard. She never expected Jordan to be so ruthless. She tried to stop him, but he pressed her hand, signaling that he knew what he was doing. Stella decided to trust him./
“If you really wanted to die, you could’ve gone off somewhere alone and done it in secret. Instead, you attract all these people here. It took me twenty minutes to get here, and you still haven’t jumped. What are you trying to do?
“Use this to threaten me, make me divorce her, and be with you?” Jordan continued. Everyone was left shocked by what Jordan said.
Joan just stood there, stunned, unable to react. Some of the firefighters found it was a chance, so they started heading straight for Joan.
Joan was so lost in what Jordan had just said that she didn’t even notice the firefighters closing in. Before she could snap out of it, they’d already pulled her back to safety.
Joan walked up to Jordan, shooting a glance at Stella before looking back at him. “So, there’s not even the slightest chance for us?”
“That’s right. Not even a little,” Jordan said coldly.
Stella squeezed Jordan’s hand tightly. If she were in his shoes, she wouldn’t lead any of her admirers on, either.
Joan gave a self–mocking laugh, but when she looked at Stella again, her eyes burned with hatred, like Stella had snatched away everything. that should’ve belonged to her.

After Joan was taken away, Jordan took Stella’s hand. “Let’s go home. But Stella didn’t say a word.
Jordan gave her a puzzled look. “What’s wrong?”
“It’s nothing. I’m just wondering if I really loved someone, just how far would I go for him?”
Jordan pulled her into his arms. “How far do you want to go? Anyway, you’re only allowed to like me. No one else even gets a shot.*
Stella’s lips curled into a smile. She had no idea that, because of her feelings for Jordan, she’d one day do things she never would have believed herself capable of.
Lionel’s supermarket finished renovations before hers, and it opened a few days later.
Nola frowned. “Is he crazy? Those renovation materials might still contain something that is bad for people’s health. How could he let customers in?”
“I didn’t expect that either,” Stella said.

Back then, even seeing a little animal get hurt would make Lionel upset. The reason he wanted to be a doctor was that he had a heart for saving lives. But now, his actions have made him more like a cold–blooded villain.
Stella had quietly investigated the Quinn family’s situation and knew things weren’t going well for them. But what Lionel’s doing showed it might be worse than she’d imagined.
He was in such a rush to open the supermarket because he wanted to beat Stella and hoped to push Hayes Group out of the picture for good.
“Ms. Hayes, what should we?” Nola asked.
“How are the people he’s hired?” Stella asked.
“There is a lot, because he’s offering the highest wages in the industry. But some people know the renovations just finished, so a lot of them are still hesitant to go to work there.”
Stella said calmly, “No worries. We’ll just stick to our pace. With the way he’s running things, he’ll end up ruining himself without us even lifting a finger.”
Nola nodded in agreement, fully backing Stella’s words.
Sure enough, once his supermarket began to do business, the way it was run drew in a lot of customers.
Some people said, “The place just got renovated. That can’t be good for our health. Maybe we shouldn’t go.”
But others didn’t think so. “If many people go, and breathe in there, the unhealthy air will soon be removed.”
“Suit yourself, but we’re not going.”
Even so, plenty of people still came to shop. The Quinn family even made a show of posting their first day’s sales numbers online to thank everyone for supporting them.
Of course, the happiest people were Lionel’s parents. Hasan looked at Lionel with pride, placing a hand on his shoulder. “That’s my boy. You’re a real business prodigy. Whenever you step in, success is guaranteed.”
Erica beamed and said, “Looks like our family’s future is only going to get brighter and brighter.”
Lionel forced a smile, but it didn’t quite reach his eyes. He knew all too well how he’d achieve everything. He’d done the one thing he thought
