Samuel was in the study, and Fawn was lounging in the rooftop garden on the third floor.
Upon spotting Dominic, she stood up, her face lighting up with a wide grin. "What brings you here today? Did your dad ask you to bring Nancy back? That's why you're so excited, huh?"
Dominic's expression remained stoic.
Though he wasn't visibly angry, the absence of emotion on his face, combined with the intensity in his gaze, made him seem somewhat intimidating.
"Dominic, why are you looking at me like that?"
Fawn instinctively touched her face.
Dominic gestured politely with his hand. "Please, sit down."
Fawn sat back down, and Dominic followed suit.
"Have you had dinner? Would you like some honeydew?"
She picked up a slice of honeydew from the platter in front of her and offered it to him.
"Mom, I've fallen for someone. You must have figured it out by now, right?" Dominic suddenly said.
Fawn's hand paused in mid-air.
The two of them locked eyes.
A few moments of silence passed before Fawn nodded and smiled. "I heard your father mention it. He said you and Ms. Gildon are seeing each other. I told him not to spread rumors—she just got divorced, and rumors like that could damage her reputation."
"You're right," Dominic said. "If I care for her and decide to pursue her, I can't just walk away without taking responsibility. So, I'll marry her."
The final sentence wasn't a question—it was a definitive statement.
Dominic leaned back in his chair, his gaze dark and unwavering.
Fawn froze, her body stiffening.
Dominic's gaze sharpened.
Fawn quickly responded, "It wasn't me who called her back. She insisted on coming and had been pestering your dad for some time. We eventually agreed. Dominic, you don't really think I brought Nancy back just to create trouble for Ms. Gildon, do you?"
"Wasn't it you?" Dominic pressed.
"Of course not. Nancy wanted to come back on her own. Could our family really have stopped her? Besides, you're with Ms. Gildon now. Nancy doesn't matter to you anymore. You've already moved on, so what's there to fear?"
Dominic let out a soft laugh. "You're right."
He stood up, stretching casually. "Now that we've gone through everything, it's my turn to speak. Please pass this along to Nancy and give her a warning."
Turning away, he continued, "If she dares to stir up trouble or hurt Vespera, I'll make sure she's permanently banned from Halewick."
Fawn's face turned pale. "What... Why are you being so harsh with her? Didn't you two used to be so close? She just loves you. She hasn't done anything wrong."
