Late at night, there was a banging on the door of a household in a village. An old man turned on the lights and went to open the door.
Two young men in robes stood at the door and said, "Hello, sir. Could you spare us some plain bread?"
It was Reese, and behind him was Wrendell. The two of them were traveling around on foot, relying on alms to fill their bellies each day.
The old man agreed to their request. He thought that both of them looked really pitiful and did not seem like bad people. He ushered the two of them into his home.
However, Reese quickly refused and said, "Sir, we just want some food. I'm really sorry. Our master has ordered that we're not allowed to enter the house of any benefactor."
The old man had nothing to say to that, so he took out two buns from the kitchen and placed them in their bowls. After thanking the old man, the two said a prayer of blessing and left.
Reese took Wrendell to a remote mountain forest. He took out a lighter from his hand and lit a bonfire to keep warm. Reese and Wrendell then ate the buns with gusto, devouring them hungrily.
At this time, Wrendell sighed. “We’ve been begging the entire day, and only this man gave us food. This…”
Reese swallowed the bun and then took out the water bottle he brought with him from his bag.
After taking a few sips, he said, "Everyone can reject us. This is our fate. But we’re lucky that the old man gave us food. Stop complaining. You can go to sleep first. I'll keep vigil tonight."
Wrendell hurriedly finished the bun and took a sip of water before falling into a deep slumber.
During this period, the two of them would walk from the village to the city and then from the city to another village. For more than ten days, they witnessed all the ups and downs in life.
They witnessed many life events including weddings and funerals. Some people would offer them some food, and they would bless and pray for these people in return.
They still had around 20 days left for this kind of life, but Wrendell's mentality had changed over the course of ten days.
With that said, Reese was assured and no longer hesitated. The two of them walked straight into the city.
When they came to the city, they could not believe it. Everything around them was extremely prosperous. The city was bustling and thriving.
As they were deep in the mountains, they were expecting an old forest. Nevertheless, a bustling city appeared among the mountains.
This was really surprising.
Wrendell and Reese were walking on the street. Suddenly, the sound of firecrackers was heard not far away. They thought an event was taking place, so they walked in the direction of the sound.
Sure enough, in front of the two of them was a luxury car adorned with big red flowers. Right at the front was a beautiful burgundy carriage, drawn by several stallions led by a few muscular-looking footmen.
