Kalo's phone pinged with a message. Enid had sent a cute cat emoji, signaling that she had successfully gathered the information they needed. It was the secret code they had agreed upon.
The moment had arrivedβeverything was ready, and Enid had successfully gauged Teresa's feelings.
Now, it was time for the next step.
Kalo pulled a bottle of cologne and a piece of gum out of his pocket.
"Here, chew this. It's your favoriteβwatermelon flavor. And..." Kalo began fixing Anox's clothes, smoothing out the creases.
"There's a wrinkle here... and another one here," Kalo fussed.
"Kalo... you don't need to go so overboard..." Anox protested.
"Of course, I do!" Kalo insisted, giving him a quick spritz of the cologne. "There, now you're good to go. Chevy, are you ready?"
"Obviously," Chevy replied, snapping his fingers. Out of nowhere, a group of people appeared, each holding several bouquets of flowers.
"What about this one?" Chevy asked.
"The colors are too bright. Try another," Kalo critiqued.
"Got it."
"Wait... Hold on a second," Anox interrupted. "What's all this?"
Kalo explained, "Well, if you're going to confess, it needs to be done properly. We prepared these flowers ahead of time for you. How about this color?"
"This seems a bit much..." Anox muttered.
"Absolutely not! It has to be perfect! Chevy, make sure you get rid of his old coat. I've got a better one lined up for him."
"Hey, that's not necessary!" Anox protested again.
...
Enid and Marino departed. After a quick, casual goodbye, Kalo and Chevy followed suit.
The street fell into a quiet calm, with only the faint glow of a few street lights illuminating the steps along the roadside. Anox and Teresa stood there, facing each other briefly before quickly turning their heads away.
"I'll walk you home," Anox offered.
"Huh?" Teresa was taken aback by his sudden offer. Anox's home was just a short distance ahead while Teresa's was much farther away.
She had always walked home alone, but today, Anox was unexpectedly offering to accompany her.
"Is something wrong?" Anox asked.
Though he tried to act as if nothing was unusual, inside, he was a nervous wreck.
"N-Not at all... Thank you," Teresa stammered, feeling a mix of surprise and gratitude.
