After Anox finished paying the bill downstairs and was about to head back upstairs, he was stopped by Kalo and Chevy.
"What's up?" Anox asked.
"Come on, Anox. Let's go for a walk," Kalo said.
"It's freezing outside! Do you really need one that bad?" Anox teased.
Kalo gave Chevy a knowing glance. Without another word, the two of them grabbed Anox and dragged him outside.
Anox was dumbfounded. "Hey, you two, Teresa and the others are still waiting for us!"
"Don't worry, Anox. It'll just be for a few minutes. Let's go," Kalo reassured him.
Once they were outside, the streetlights illuminated the quiet but still somewhat bustling street. It was not too late yet, and a few people were still walking around.
Kalo pulled out three cigarettes from his pocket and handed one each to the other two.
"Wait, why are they just loose in your pocket?" Chevy joked.
"I don't know when I lost the pack, but don't worry, they're fine. Here," Kalo said, offering one to Anox.
Anox accepted it. Kalo pulled out a lighter, lighting all three of their cigarettes in unison. Together, they all exhaled a long, synchronized puff of smoke.
Anox gazed at the streetlights, momentarily lost in thought as the cold night air hit his face.
Kalo suddenly broke the silence. "Anox, are you ready?"
"Ready? For what?" Anox looked at him in confusion.
Anox knew Kalo well. The mischievous grin on Kalo's face was all he needed to know that Kalo had probably made a decision on his behalf, yet again.
Just as Kalo was about to explain, Anox interrupted him.
Kalo patted Anox on the shoulder and continued, "Let me explain. We talked it over before we came here. Tonight, you're going to confess to Teresa!"
"But... Kalo, isn't that a bit sudden?" Anox stammered.
Kalo waved his hand dismissively. "No, no, the timing is perfect. I've already sent Enid to feel out Teresa's thoughts. She'll report back soon, and then you can make your big move!"
"Wait a minuteβ¦" Anox grabbed Kalo's phone, unlocking it with his own fingerprint. He found a group chat titled, 'Operation Anox's Big Confession'.
"What the heck is this..." Anox muttered in disbelief.
Kalo was not in any rush to take the phone back. Instead, he took a long drag of his cigarette and patted Anox's shoulder again.
"Anox, you really need to stop overthinking everything. Look, all the obstacles that were in your way with Teresa are gone now. If you don't confess soon, you're going to regret it. I'm just looking out for you here. At the very least, you need to set an example."
"Set an example?"
