My Substitute CEO Bride (Nash Calicraft) novel Chapter 2371

At that moment, Dusky suddenly called out to her.

"Do you really think it's a good idea for you to appear now?"

Charlotte, who was already overwhelmed by her emotions, protested, "But he's my brother."

"Yes," Dusky replied, standing up and moving outside. He pointed to the notes on the paper and continued, "He's also the brother of this boy named Chuck. Perhaps they're living a happy life together now. Do you really want to disrupt that?"

"She's meeting her sibling! How could that be a disruption?" Astin shouted in response.

Dusky ignored Astin and added, "Your father, Nestor, is already dead."

Hearing this, tears welled up in Charlotte's eyes. Her initial excitement began to subside, and her raised head slowly lowered.

She realized that their fates had already diverged in different directions. If she suddenly appeared before her brother now, how would he feel about it?

The thought of this made Charlotte feel afraid.

She said hesitantly, "You're right. Maybe... I shouldn't disturb them. But... can I ask you something?"

"If it's something I know, I might just tell you," Dusky replied.

"My father... Where was he buried?" Charlotte asked as she pulled an ornate hairpin from her backpack.

"This was my mother's. I think... the reason I came back was for thisβ€”to leave behind my mother's favorite item, this hairpin, which also symbolizes where my parents' love began. I want to place it with my father."

Dusky did not speak immediately. For a moment, he felt a flicker of hesitation in his heart. After a pause, he nodded and said, "I understand."

"But you don't look fine," Clayton said, clearly worried. The old man's face was pale, and he did not seem alright at all.

The old man shook his head, declining Clayton's offer for help. He then said, "I'm really okay, but could you help me with something?"

Clayton held the old man up and nodded in agreement. "Of course, sir. What do you need?"

The old man pointed off into the distance. "Over there… My wife's over there. Could you take me to see her?"

Clayton looked in the direction the man pointed and understood why the old man was so insistent. He knew that place wellβ€”it was the cemetery where his father was buried.

The old man said he wanted to see his wife, so his wife had most likely already passed away.

Clayton felt a sting in his nose, and his eyes reddened slightly. He nodded and agreed to the old man's request.
