Clayton had always buried his determination for revenge deep within his heart. Nonetheless, he also knew that none of these misfortunes were Chuck's fault; his jealousy was entirely his own.
Clayton suddenly spoke, his voice unexpectedly soft, "Chucky, it's enough now. Let's end it here. I've made too many mistakes, and you're my brotherβI don't hate you. If you become a god, just keep pushing forward."
At that moment, Clayton still could not bring himself to look back at Chuck. He felt neither guilt nor remorse. In his mind, he had avenged their mother. Yet in doing so, he became a sinnerβsomeone beyond forgiveness.
Despite all that, he could not help but show his genuine affection for his younger brother.
Chuck looked at Clayton's fading figure, the brother he once idolized. He knew the kindness his brother had shown him in the past was real. Now, all he could do was bid his brother a dignified farewell.
Just like that, Clayton died before Chuck's eyes. Chuck felt utterly numb. His heart was void of life.
Everyone he lovedβfamily, friendsβwas gone, all because of this absurd selection.
At that moment, Dusky descended from the sky and approached Chuck.
"Congratulations, Chuck. You're about to win."
"Me? About to?" Chuck murmured, barely registering the words.
Dusky nodded and pointed at Smiley. "She's already powerless to fight back. All you have to do is kill her, and then you'll truly become a god."
Chuck glanced over at Smiley. She was leaning against a tree, gasping for breath. Her eyes were closed as if she already knew her fate.
Chuck walked over to her. Before he could speak, Smiley opened her eyes and spoke first.
"If you're going to do it, just hurry up. I can't wait to see my old man," Smiley said, her voice tinged with quiet resolve.
"I see. A great god like you... You really do know everything, don't you?" Chuck replied, a hint of bitterness in his voice.
Dusky did not answer but instead turned his attention to Smiley. "Smiley, you now have the right to become a god. Come with me."
Smiley stood up and asked innocently, "If I become a god, will my old man come back?"
Dusky nodded. "Yes, he will. They all will."
"That's great!" Smiley beamed with joy. However, Dusky added, "But you might never be able to see him again."
Smiley fell silent for a moment but then forced a smile, tears glistening in her eyes. "That's enough for me. As long as my old man is okay, that's all that matters."
Dusky nodded in understanding. Then, he raised his finger.
