With me as a bargaining chip, Kaleb seemed to have calmed down significantly. He looked at Hendrix and sneered, "Mr. Roberts, is this your whole squad? What about your base?"
Hendrix's face darkened as he said again in a deep voice, "Let go of her."
As he spoke, he had already taken out the weapon at his waist and pointed it at us.
Seeing this, I involuntarily heaved a sigh of relief. I couldn't wrap my head around all this.
But I did figure a few things out. It seemed that Kaleb had inquired about my identity before coming here; that was why he had deliberately brought me here.
He dragged me towards the door. I saw the beads of sweat on Evan's forehead, and knew how anxious he was at the moment.
This had been a trap that Hendrix specifically set up for Kaleb, but he had not expected me to be here.
All of a sudden, Kaleb grabbed me forcefully by the neck, and a voice came from his earpiece.
It was Tiago. "Mr. Kaleb, the explosives are ready.
We're awaiting your orders."
Instead of replying, he simply dragged me back. He looked at Hendrix's cold face. "Hendrix, I'm about to defeat you again," he remarked sardonically.
After that, I was dragged out the door. "Hendrix, they're going to blow the place up! Don't worry about me," I yelled.
I was thrown into the car by Kaleb, and the place thundered with the overwhelming sound of gunshots. I couldn't make out what was going on.
With a loud 'bang', the car was suddenly stuck in place as two cars rammed against its front and rear before it could take off.
Then came the sound of a gun being fired, and the ringing that echoed it. Kaleb dragged me hard and pushed me forward to cover him.
The person holding the gun hesitated because of me.
Kaleb's disdainful voice and laughter jeered against my ear. "It seems that you're more valuable than I thought!"
It was the first time I understood that this had been his weakness.
"Hendrix, let me go, or I'll drag her down to hell with me!" Kaleb pointed the gun towards me, his voice cold and frightening.
Hendrix narrowed his eyes sharply, voice deep. "Let her go, and I'll spare your life!"
Kaleb sneered. "You think I'd believe that?"
Hendrix seemed to be holding back his rage. If he could kill Kaleb right now, he wouldn't hesitate tearing him apart.
However, he restrained himself. After a moment of silence, Hendrix said, "Let her go. I'll be your hostage in exchange."
"No!" I screamed, my voice hoarse.
Kaleb laughed arrogantly. "Hendrix, I thought you were invincible. It turns out that you're still just an ordinary man. So, this is what that saying meant, that no man can resist a woman's charms."
