The emcee's eyes were filled with excitement as he looked at the object in his hands. He didn't forget to explain, "If I'm not mistaken, this is the bead found in ancient Tuberland, which is worth more than two hundred and fifty million dollars! After last year's auction in Mesville, it was acquired by a private buyer and was out of public view for a very long time. I didn't expect it to be sold to Miss Forbes! This is amazing!"
The emcee was very knowledgeable. I didn't expect it to be so valuable, since the bead was about the size of a finger.
The main point was its intriguing price, which was two hundred and fifty million dollars. It seemed that it had plenty to do with the lawsuit.
The guests, who were used to attending such events, started whispering amongst themselves.
"The Forbes family sent this, and with its staggering price, isn't it obvious that they want to make peace with Milleon? With this gift, the relationship between their two families might ease up a little."
"I didn't think that we were waiting this whole time to witness a woman of the Forbes family make a fool of herself. The others would have thought of this sooner."
"That's right. Otherwise, she wouldn't have left the Forbes family and started her own business. Milleon had no choice but to receive her gift. Looks like he won't be able to vent his anger after all."
"Tut-tut-tut. Serene has cheated him out of two hundred million dollars, so losing fifty million dollars as compensation wouldn't even hurt her one bit. I can't afford to mess with her..."
As such, these people didn't hold back on their hostilities and mockery towards Serene through their words. But in the end, they were all envious of her smart tactics. Getting others to yield without having to fight was exactly what they wanted to learn.
Amidst the hubbub, Milleon's laughter was noticeably bizarre. However, just as the guests had expected, he didn't get angry, especially since this was his father's birthday celebration. He very quickly adjusted his mood and took the antique graciously from the emcee. He examined it in his hand before nodding in satisfaction.
Just when everyone thought that he would have to accept Serene's special form of an apology, he shut the wooden box, seized the microphone, and stepped off the stage. He strutted over to the nearest table and picked up a bottle of whiskey, poured it into three separate glasses, then beamed at the crowd.
Apologizing was a piece of cake in the world of money and power. The fighting between these two sides would never really stop.
All eyes were on Serene. Everyone was waiting for her response. The atmosphere was heavy. Except for the subtle buzzing sound coming from the microphone, the entire hall was in a near-complete silence.
Finally, ten seconds after the confrontation, Serene's facial expression changed. She started walking toward Milleon, and without saying a single word, picked up a glass and gulped it down.
The guests gasped. Even Milleon was taken aback. He didn't expect her to be so cooperative.
After draining the three cups of whiskey, Serene didn't look too good, but it didn't seem to be as exaggerated as the crowd had said. With all the fuss the emcee caused along with the other guests, she shook hands with Milleon in front of everyone.
