My Love Until the Last Goodbye (Mary and Maximus) novel Chapter 1036

For a few seconds, Laura was frozen in place, staring in shock at the woman storming toward them, cursing and shouting. But then she snapped out of it—this time, she wouldn’t allow Alice to cause a scene.

"Adrian Brown! So this is what’s had you acting like an idiot?" Alice George shouted, furious.

"Alice!" Adrian quickly stepped in front of her, trying to block her path.

"Get out of my way!" she snapped, shoving him aside. She turned her venomous glare toward Laura. "So, what now, you pathetic little homewrecker? Trying to steal my husband? You’re nothing but a whore! And you—" she snarled, turning back to Adrian, "—just wait until I go talk to your parents! Move!"

"Alice, stop! Enough! Control yourself!" Adrian pleaded, grabbing her arm in an attempt to calm her down.

Laura, still processing everything, stood frozen as memories of Alice and Antonia’s relentless bullying in school flooded back. She could barely focus on anything except the endless stream of insults being thrown at her.

"You’re such an idiot! A worthless piece of shit!" Alice spat at Adrian. "You think I don’t know about your little bastard child with her? Let me make one thing very clear: that brat will never step foot in my house. What the hell are you even thinking, Adrian? Your family owes mine—you owe me!"

She stomped on Adrian’s foot, pushing him away before lunging toward Laura.

Laura saw the hand coming. Something inside her snapped.

She dodged the slap effortlessly.

"You filthy whore! You and that bitch daughter of yours can rot in hell! Adrian will never come back to you, so get over it! You’re trash, Laura Palmer! You’ve always been trash!" Alice screamed, her words dripping with hatred.

Alice barely had time to finish her sentence before Laura’s hand struck her across the face.

Laura’s voice was ice-cold. "You started this, Alice. You’ve spent your whole life looking down on me. And for what? Because I wasn’t rich enough for you? Because I didn’t belong in your little world? Well, look at you now. Pathetic. Desperate. And guess what? You don’t intimidate me anymore."

At that moment, Laura wasn’t the same woman everyone knew. It was as if a different side of her had emerged—something raw, ruthless, almost eerily composed.

It was as if her mother, Alexia, was whispering in her ear, guiding her every move.

"Laura… please," Adrian finally spoke again, his tone pleading. "Let her go. Don’t get yourself into trouble over this. Please."

"Adrian… I have no idea what you ever saw in an empty woman like this, but let me tell you one thing—" Laura said as she finally released Alice’s hair, shoving her back onto the ground. "If you want to see your daughter, you need to learn how to control her. Because if you don’t, you will never meet my child. She may grow up without a father, but trust me—she has me, and that’s more than enough."
