My Love Until the Last Goodbye (Mary and Maximus) novel Chapter 1035

"Alright, sweetheart, it’s time. You’ve already made your decision, and it’s not like you’re marrying the guy—you’re just making it clear what you won’t allow for your daughter. Oh! And remember, don’t go alone. Take one of the security team with you."

"Yeah, yeah, Emma. Don’t worry. Take good care of my little girl."

"Of course! Don’t worry at all. With the cleaning staff and the cook, we’ve got everything covered. She won’t be missing anything, so go with peace of mind."

"Thank you, Emma!" Laura said as she got into her car.

Behind her, one of Maximus’s security guards, Benson, followed closely in another vehicle.

She arrived at Benedict Square Park ten minutes early, choosing a bench and sitting down.

"Miss, your father asked me to keep some distance, so I’ll give you your space. I’ll be sitting over there, but I’ll be watching in case anything happens," Benson said kindly.

"Thank you, Benson," Laura replied, trying to appear calm.

She checked her phone. The ten minutes felt like an eternity. As soon as she arrived, she had sent Adrian her location. Now, all she could do was wait. She wasn’t sure how to start, but she knew exactly what needed to be said.

At exactly 3:00 PM, she spotted a familiar figure approaching. It was Adrian Brown, walking toward her.

Laura took a deep breath and let it out. 'Whatever happens, happens. This is for Adele, not for you, Laura.'

"Hey, Laura. Sorry, I couldn’t get away from the office sooner," Adrian said as he sat down beside her.

"Don’t worry, I just got here."

"I know people change. But I haven’t seen you change. This is your chance to prove it. But if you mess this up, you’ll never see my daughter again—I can guarantee you that."

"Alright… I promise I won’t take this for granted. And I promise I won’t disappoint you," Adrian said, looking her straight in the eyes.

"Don’t make promises to me. Do it for your daughter. Everything you do from now on, do it for her, not for me. She is the only thing that connects us, and that’s all. As long as we both respect that, I think we can keep things civil."

"Alright… I’ll do it for her. And I swear I’ll never let her down. I’ve had plenty of time to think about that," Adrian said, trying to show his commitment to the opportunity Laura was giving him.

"Good. Because my daughter deserves a father who’s all in, not one who only gives her half his time."

Laura stood up, ready to leave, when a loud voice suddenly stopped her in her tracks.
