Paul's body stiffened. He reluctantly removed his hand from his head and turned to look at Skylar and Joe.
"My mind is a mess," he began, his voice strained. "Chaotic memories are flooding in, blending with my own as if I've been reborn. Then those three years in Murida came rushing back, and with them, the fear. I feel like I'm losing control of myself."
He exhaled heavily, his words tumbling out in one breath. The memories of those three years were a nightmare he had fought hard to overcome. Yet now, with his mental state fragile, those horrors had returned to haunt him.
Joe furrowed his brow. "Have you come into contact with anyone or anything unusual recently?"
Paul nodded, pressing his fingers against his temples. "It was something my mom brought back for me. I hadn't even put it on yet, and these memories started overwhelming me."
Skylar followed his gaze to a beaded bracelet resting on the bench. At first glance, it seemed ordinary—something one might pick up at a tourist shop.
She picked it up, turning it over in her hand as Joe handed Paul a simple red string bracelet. "Wear this," Joe said.
Skylar recognized it as one of the talismans she had given him earlier. The string was imbued with calming properties—exactly what Paul needed now.
"The memories from my past life… they're all about Mrs. Martin. In my past life, she never married Mr. Martin. Instead, she was killed by the Williams family. Her brothers lost everything—their jobs, their futures.
"It was a tragedy. Even though we eventually exposed the Williams family and avenged Mrs. Martin, she still didn't survive. What's strange is that only these memories came back. The rest of my past life mirrors this one. That's the part I can't explain."
Noting the worry in Joe's eyes, she smiled to reassure him. "Don't worry. Whoever's behind this is operating from the shadows, but their tricks are minor. They can cause disruptions, but they're no real threat to me."
As she spoke, she wrapped the bead in the talisman she had prepared.
Paul stretched, rolling his shoulders and jumping lightly on his feet. His color had returned, and he looked far less pale. "I feel better now. Before you arrived, those memories made it impossible to tell reality from dreams.
"But once Mrs. Martin dealt with the bracelet, everything cleared up. Those so-called past life memories now feel like a bad dream—or maybe even a movie I watched."
This whole metaphysical stuff was too disturbing. Elsie was probably going through something similar.

Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
