Elsie couldn't fathom why a thief like Skylar had managed to earn so much trust from so many people. It was incomprehensible that Joe would place his faith in her.
In their previous life, he had fallen for her at first sight, pursuing her relentlessly, loving her with an intensity that defied reason. How could it be possible that, after meeting her again in this life, he would feel nothing?
Elsie refused to believe that Skylar and Joe were truly in love. It was all an act—a carefully constructed façade. A lie. A scheme orchestrated by Skylar.
"Mr. Ziegler, do you think I'll just give up if you stop me from meeting Joe? Others may not have the chance, but I will. I'm certain of it! I'll make Joe remember everything, and I'll make that shameless woman, Skylar, stop clinging to him!"
Standing just outside the door, Elsie's mother, Katy Seinfield, overheard her muttering and felt a wave of unease.
Katy had raised Elsie under her watchful eye and knew her daughter's temperament well. Elsie had always been studious, gentle, and kind—a girl who approached problems with a calm and measured resolve. Even now, with the family facing hardships, Elsie had stepped forward to help without hesitation.
But Katy had never seen Elsie this agitated before. She could hear the anger and bitterness laced in every word Elsie spoke. It felt so unlike the daughter she had raised.
"Elsie, have you eaten dinner yet?" Katy asked softly, trying to ease into a conversation.
"Don't bother me!" Elsie snapped, her voice sharp. "I told you not to disturb me! Why are you still here? Don't you know I'm in a bad mood? Of course, you wouldn't understand. Just leave me alone. You're all burdens to me!"
Katy froze, her face paling at the harsh words. This wasn't the Elsie she knew. The obedient, considerate daughter she had raised wouldn't speak like this.
Later that evening, as the workday was drawing to a close, Skylar received an unexpected call from Harvey. "Hey, Skylar, do you have time tonight? Want to grab dinner?"
Skylar blinked in surprise. Harvey rarely called, let alone invited her out. "Sure. What do you feel like eating? It's on me."
"I'll treat you, Skylar."
"Alright."
"I'll send you the restaurant's address," Harvey added after a pause. His voice grew serious as he hung up and forwarded the location.

Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
