No matter how hard she pushed, Ruth couldn't move Caleb.
After all, a woman's strength was nothing compared to a man's. Moreover, she only had one kidney, which further weakened her.
Thinking about her single kidney, Ruth's eyes reddened with grievance. "Have you all been brainwashed? Why does everyone think I'm the one in the wrong? Clearly, I'm the weak one. I'm the one who needs care and protection!
"Skylar lives such a glamorous life, and yet you all still defend her! My three brothers are all so healthy—what's the big deal about giving me a healthy kidney?
"Losing one kidney is no big deal, so why act like my parents and I are the ones who did something wrong?"
"Damn!" Caleb exclaimed. It had been a while since he last met such a manipulative person. Furthermore, she was one with a screw loose in her head.
It seemed like only Ruth could pull off such a low level of guilt-tripping. It reminded Caleb of the events over two years ago with Finn and Miriam.
Back then, the drama had caused a huge uproar, and almost everyone in Jipsburg knew about it.
People had endless discussions about the situation. Anyone with decent moral values were left speechless by Finn and Miriam's shamelessness.
Fortunately, the morally skewed Finn had left back then. Otherwise, Caleb couldn't imagine what kind of person Skylar would become under Finn's influence.
"You don't understand! You don't understand anything! I've already lost everything. My parents divorced because of those news stories, and now I can only rely on myself. What else can I do? Even my brothers won't talk to me anymore.
"This is all Skylar's fault! If she hadn't said something to them, how could they have abandoned their own sister?"
Tears streamed down Ruth's face, her words full of accusations.
Caleb couldn't help but twitch the corner of his mouth. "Your tears are no different from a crocodile's. Instead of asking why others are against you, maybe you should reflect on the things your parents have done.
She was their only biological sister. If they didn't protect her and instead watched her suffer in isolation, they would surely face retribution in the future!
The hardships she faced today were meant to make her rise again!
"They'll all regret this!"
"Hey, aren't you Ruth Sullivan?"
A man's surprised voice interrupted Ruth. Startled, Ruth turned to look at him.
He looked familiar, like a high school classmate, but she couldn't remember his name.
"I'm Jed Pascall. Don't you remember? We were high school classmates—I always sat behind you. Weren't you sick? And your parents were looking for someone to donate…"

Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
