Ruth stood there with a triumphant expression as if she had uncovered some great truth. It was almost laughable.

Caleb couldn't help but burst into laughter, loud and uninhabited. He laughed so hard he couldn't get a word out. He had been called many things in his life, but this was the first time anyone had dared label him a kept man.
