Ruth anxiously stopped Skylar from hanging up the phone.
"Skylar, are you ending the call so quickly because you don't like me? Is it because of what Dad and Mom did to my brothers recently, so you don't like me either?
"I... I didn't mean for this to happen. I never wanted my illness to burden you. I didn't know they would bring reporters to pressure my brothers to save me."
"You're overthinking it. That matter is already over, and everyone knows who is right and wrong. If that was what you really thought, it shows that you're a kind-hearted person.
"Focus on recovering. I'm sure you'll find a suitable kidney donor at the hospital," Skylar's tone softened slightly.
At this point, why Ruth called was no longer important. Skylar decided to take the conversation at face value and assume Ruth genuinely felt that way.
Ruth bit her lip. Her eyes had turned red as she continued, "I also hope to find a suitable donor soon, but... well, let's leave it to fate. I just hope that, before I die, I can see my brothers and sister.
"Can you… I know my next request might be a bit too much, but can you persuade my brothers to come see me just once?
"Just one look, and I'll be satisfied. I can leave everything behind and go in peace."
She wanted them to see her in Murida?
Skylar smiled faintly. "Sorry, I won't be going. As for the others, you can ask your parents beside you to try to contact them. If they can't be reached, then it's best for everyone to live their own lives in peace. I need to get back to work. Goodbye."
With that, she ended the call and immediately deleted Ruth from her contacts while blocking her at the same time.
It wasn't that Skylar lacked compassion, but some people simply weren't worth keeping in contact with. She could only offer her best wishes.
…
Ruth tried to video call Skylar again, but she realized she had been blocked.
"She actually blocked me! I reached out to her, and after seeing how sick I am, she still had no sympathy. Dad, Mom, she's awful! I didn't like her from the moment I first saw her!"
She didn't want to die. She was still so young, with so many dreams yet to be fulfilled.
She had been pampered and spoiled all her life, always getting what she wanted.
Why would the heavens give her this sick body? Why couldn't someone else have it instead? Why couldn't those who were beneath her fall ill instead?
"Ruth, you'll be fine! We're trying our best and should be able to get you a kidney transplant soon. It's just... a stranger's kidney won't be as good as one from your brothers," Miriam said bitterly.
The more she thought about it, the more unwilling she felt.
What should have been such a simple matter had spiraled into a complicated mess. Now, she had to hide in Murida and might never have the chance to return.
She glared at Finn with resentment. "It's all your fault! If you'd been able to control your sons, Ruth might already have had the surgery and been ready to leave the hospital! Why does Ruth have to suffer, while your sons are perfectly healthy?"
"It's because you pushed things too far and forced them! If it weren't for that, all of this wouldn't have happened. We might still have had a chance, or at the very least, we could still be in Jipsburg," Finn retorted, equally dissatisfied with Miriam.

Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
