Skylar recently added some people to WhatsApp. Many were clients, while others were new colleagues.
However, she didn't expect one of them to be Ruth. Even more unexpectedly, Ruth actually video-called her.
It happened to be lunchtime, and since she was free, she accepted the call.
When the video connected, Skylar was slightly taken aback to see a girl wearing a hat, looking pale, staring at her through the phone screen.
Ruth resembled her mother, though there was a faint trace of Finn's features in her eyebrows and eyes. However, she didn't look much like Steven or the others.
As Skylar looked at Ruth, she also looked back at her. Ruth's eyes were filled with surprise, admiration, and a well-hidden trace of jealousy.
"Skylar, I finally get to see you. I added you a few days ago but didn't dare say anything. Plus, I've been feeling unwell these days, so I didn't want to bother you."
Ruth's voice was weak, but she had a bright smile. It seemed this was her best condition in recent days.
Skylar was slightly puzzled by this unexpected video call. They were not biologically related after all.
"Hello," she said.
Instead, Skylar had been cold from the start, speaking no more than 20 words in total.
"I know you probably don't like me because of our parents' issues and that there are misunderstandings between us. But I just wanted to say, I've always wished I had siblings.
"When I see others with siblings, I feel so envious. The moment I saw you, Skylar, I really liked you."
Skylar glanced at the time. "I need to end this call. I hope you recover soon."
"Wait!"

Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
