James finally found me two weeks later.
By then, I had already undergone surgery, and the doctor said that as long as I rested for three months, I would be able to stand up again.
Even the fallopian tube surgery had unexpectedly succeeded in one go, as if heaven was looking out for me.
When James appeared by my bedside, he looked haggard and had lost a lot of weight.
"Darling, I’m sorry…"
I coldly interrupted him, "Don’t call me ‘darling,’ I’m not your wife."
"Gloria, believe it or not, I’ve always loved you. It’s just that when my father heard that your body wasn’t suitable for pregnancy, and didn’t want Gina to go to jail, he forced me to marry her and have a child with her. That way, even if you find out the truth later, you won’t be able to shake the status of Gina’s son as the heir."
"I had no choice…"
"Enough. James, stop making yourself sound so pitiful. You have your own selfish reasons.
You think that if I become the heir, having me by your side wouldn’t be so bad. If I end up ruined, and Gina’s son becomes the heir, you’d still be able to benefit. You’re fundamentally selfish, just like Gina."
After I exposed him, James’s face turned pale.
"But the care and love I’ve given you these years have been real. Can’t you forgive me for the sake of these ten years?"
"Impossible. James, these consequences are the ones you chose, and you have to bear them yourself."
I pressed the bell next to my bed and told the nurse not to let him see me again.
James was thrown out.
A week later, the news online said that Gina was going to be publicly tried.
I opened the live stream, and Gina’s expression was still as arrogant as ever.
"How can you convict me based on these chat logs, which might not even be real?"
"If you can’t provide solid evidence, then release me immediately!"
The lawyer spoke eloquently, making her look terrible for two hours, even though there was no concrete proof.
He made veiled jabs, including mocking her and James for deceiving me with a fake marriage.
Gina was so furious she almost exploded, but she couldn’t argue with the lawyer.
"Defense lawyer, I think this behavior is utterly shameless! What do you think?"
The lawyer even dragged Gina’s defense lawyer into the discussion, seeking his approval.
Gina’s defense lawyer buried his head in the case files and refused to speak.
"Enough with the crying, we’ve all made the mistake together, what good is crying now?"
"James, didn’t you say that Gloria had surgery abroad? Try to send her some money. We can only do our best to make up for her…"
Gina wasn’t having it. She jumped up from the sofa.
"Dad, you can’t give her any money. It’s all her fault we ended up like this, like rats scurrying in the streets with everyone chasing us. How can you still side with her?"
Gina’s son was frightened by her outburst and started crying loudly.
James quickly pulled him into his arms, scolding Gina with concern.
"You scared the child! You were the one who wronged Gloria. We’ve done all this to protect you, to redeem you, and now you’re blaming us?"
Gina’s eyes grew even darker.
"Don’t think I don’t know how many times you’ve slept with Gloria over the past five years. I don’t care if you’re dirty, but you, a rotten cucumber, still dare to lecture me?"
"You’re full of shit!" James, enraged, put down their son and was about to slap her.
"Slap!"
She struck first, leaving him stunned.
