Joe froze.
Luke spoke up, voice dripping with sarcasm. "Ohhh right, totally. Chairman Morris, you’re absolutely right—who is Selina anyway? Some nobody, not worthy of an apology from your precious heiress. Now that she’s fainted, are you satisfied?"
Joe flushed red. "I didn’t expect this to happen..."
All he had wanted was to deescalate things—not to actually hurt Selina.
Angelica stammered, shaking her head frantically. "Dad, no, Selina’s fine! She’s faking it, I’m sure she is—"
"Angelica, do you really think everyone fakes fainting as easily as you do?"
Luke looked like he was about to explode. "You faked a pregnancy, faked a miscarriage, framed her—and now you’re accusing her of pretending to faint?! What next, you want us to slap her awake just to prove your innocence?"
Angelica was speechless, her face drained of color. "I-I didn’t mean..."
The more Luke thought about it, the angrier he got.
Selina had actually fainted from being so furious—she was too soft! Someone had to get justice for her.
Luke couldn’t hold back anymore. Once he started talking, it was like a machine gun—rapid fire, unstoppable.
Selina: "..."
Hidden from view, she quietly reached out and tugged on Luke’s sleeve.
Luke immediately froze. "...What?"
Wait. She was pretending?
No. Even if she was faking it—he was going to make it look real!
So everyone watched as Luke got even more fired up.
"Maybe I should take a field trip to death row. Show the inmates how to win in their next life: get reborn into the Morris Family! There, no matter what crimes you commit, Chairman Morris will clean up your mess. What? The victim wants justice? Pfft. Being hurt by a Morris Family member is a privilege!"
"And while I’m at it, I’ll help every mistress who hasn’t climbed the ladder yet—just become Chairman Morris’s daughter! He’s a saint for homewreckers. Loves helping mistresses kick out the wife. With him around, the whole upper class will be a paradise for side chicks!"
Then he pulled out his phone and started calling.
"Hi, Aunt Cooper? It’s me, Luke! You won’t believe what Chairman Morris and Angelica did today—"
"Hey, Lucy! Yep, Luke here. Listen, heads up: the Morris Family loves mistresses. Angelica? Total side chick. Yeah, just looking out for you—your boyfriend’s a Morris Family relative, right? Better dump him now. If you marry into that mess, he’ll probably be encouraged to cheat. That’s their brand."
Selina nearly choked trying not to laugh. Luke, have you even seen your mom’s face right now?
Thankfully, she was curled up in Logan’s arms—no one could see the way her lips were twitching. If Luke kept going, she was going to blow her cover.
Only after the second call did Joe finally snap back and shout, "Luke!"
But Luke completely ignored him. "Logan, why are you still standing here? Chairman Morris already made it clear—he’s not apologizing. You could wait here until the end of time and still get nothing. Better to take Selina home and let her rest."
Without a word, Logan scooped Selina into his arms and walked out, not sparing the Morris Family a glance.
Angelica clutched her chest, struggling to breathe. "No, Logan... don’t go... Dad, please, make him stay..."
For the first time, Joe didn’t grant her request. He just stood there in a daze, watching Logan’s silhouette disappear.
