Carter warned her, and Madeline warned him in turn.
Having said this, Madeline did not forget to put on her gentle and affectionate smile before turning around to smile at the little princess who had been looking at her.
“Bye—bye, Lily.”
Lillian raised her tender little hand and waved at Madeline.
“Mommy.”
She called out to Madeline again, her voice tender and crisp.
Madeline felt satisfied but distressed. She had a lot of reluctance in her heart, but now she had to leave.
Carter closed the door as soon as Madeline left, but he did not move away.
Shirley looked at Carter as he walked toward her, and she felt a little nervous.
She was worried that Carter had heard whatever noise that was made when Madeline was handing her the phone.
Nevertheless, at this moment, what touched Shirley more was Carter’s real purpose for bringing her to F Country.
Carter did not notice the anomaly in Shirley’s mannerism. He asked straightforwardly, “What did you say to Eveline?”
Shirley came back to her senses suddenly and looked at the man with a stifling gaze.
“What can I say to Eveline? She just wants to spend more time with her daughter.”
“Really?” Carter obviously did not believe it. “ Aren’t you good friends who worked together to take action against me? I think you would’ve discussed how to deal with me just now, didn’t you?”
Carter’s tone seemed to be joking, but Shirley knew that he was actually serious. Moreover, his guess was not wrong.
Lillian smiled sweetly and followed Shirley into the room.
After entering the room, Shirley sat by the French window and her thoughts wandered.
After some time, Shirley felt a warm little hand gently holding her hand.
She looked down and saw that Lillian holding a small paper sailboat and that she was thrusting it into Shirley’s hand, lightly tapping the palm of Shirley’s hand.
Shirley did not quite understand what Lillian meant, but she could feel that Lillian wanted to comfort her and hope she could be happy.
“Lily, what do you want to say to me?” Lillian then handed her a small note.
Shirley took it and saw that four neat words were written on it. “Miss Shirley, be happy.”
