"Leo?" I said in a timid voice. When he didn't respond and just stated at me, I spoke again. "Leo," I spoke softly.
"What?" He sneered.
"W-we're mates," I said.
"No, we're not. You're weak, and ugly, and will never be fit to be a Luna," Leo growled. I flinched from his words, they hurt coming from him.
"But-" I started as I took a step towards him, but was cut off when I went flying backwards, hitting a tree and then falling onto the ground. I stared up at him in shock, holding my aching cheek. He hit me. My mate had hit me. Tears were streaming down my face when he stalked towards me. I scrambled backwards, but stopped when my back hit the trunk of another tree. He glared down at me as I shrank back against the tree.
"Don't you dare tell anyone that we're mates," he said, then paused before speaking again. "You know what? I think I'll just reject you. I, Leo Carter, Alpha of the Midnight Pack, reject you, Eden Rose, as my mate," he said, and I screamed as a searing pain ripped through my chest. Leo left me sobbing as I clutched my chest.
After what felt like forever, the pain finally subsided. I slowly stood up and ran as fast as I could back to my house. I silently went to my room. Tears ran down my face as I grabbed a bag from my closet, filling it with the essentials. Clothes, toiletries, food, and money I had saved up over the years. I wrote a note, leaving it on my bed before I climbed out of my window and slipped into the night.
I was done with all of this. And now I was finally going to leave.
"Leo!" I heard someone call my name just as I was about to enter my house. I turned and saw that it was my best friend, Alex. He was going to be the future Beta.
"What?" I responded.
"Have you seen my sister?" He asked. I frowned, Alex was never worried about Eden. No one was except maybe her parents.
"No, why would I have?" I asked, laughing, but on the inside, I was worried. After rejecting Eden, my wolf, Ethan, stopped talking to me. I knew he wanted his mate, but I couldn't be with her! She was weak, the runt of the pack. She wouldn't be able to become a good Luna.
"I don't know, my parents are freaking out because she left," he sighed, rubbing his hand on the back of his neck.
"What do you mean, 'she left,'? Where'd she go?" I asked, worried.
"She left a note saying that she was leaving and some other stuff, like how she couldn't handle the bullying anymore," he said, looking guilty. "She also said that the reason why she finally decided to leave was because her mate rejected her, but she didn't say who he was," he said. My wolf growled at me.
"This is your fault,' he growled.
"You don't think that I know that?" I growled back. He blocked our connection. I knew it was all my fault that Eden left. I made a fucking mistake, and now she's gone. My mate.
"God, I can't believe I've been such a bad brother to her. I'm supposed to protect her, not hurt her," Alex said, roughly running his hands over his face. "Well, I gotta get back to my house, see you later," he said as he jogged off towards his house. I quickly opened the door, slamming it behind me. I ran up to my room before closing and locking the door behind me.
She was beautiful with her toffee colored hair, and when she turned, I was captivated by her piercing green eyes. But I knew I wouldn't have her. She was weak, the runt. Not capable of being a strong Luna.
She took a step towards me, but I growled at her, making her freeze in place.
"Leo?" She said timidly. I just stared at her. "Leo," she called again, softly.
"What?" I sneered.
"W-we're mates," she said.
"No, we're not. You're weak, and ugly, and will never be fit to be a Luna," I growled, making her flinch. She made another move to get closer to me.
"But-" she started, but was cut off when I slapped her, sending her flying into a tree before falling to the ground. My wolf howled in pain, seeing that our mate was hurt.
I glared at her as I stalked towards her, making her scramble backwards until she hit another tree. I saw a bruise forming from where I hit her, and I felt a pang of guilt.
"Don't you dare tell anyone that we're mates," I said, then paused before speaking again. "You know what? I think I'll just reject you. I, Leo Carter, Alpha of the Midnight Pack, reject you, Eden Rose, as my mate." She screamed in pain just as I finished the rejection. I felt a pain in my chest, making me clench my jaw hard. I left her there, screaming in agony as my wolf howled in pain.
