"Malice."
Benjamin continued, "Vlad isn't just an evil master skilled in cursecraft. He's the embodiment of human malice, and this fragment is a manifestation of that very malice. It was torn away from him, a piece of his essence."
That was why Benjamin had asked about the name of the evil master. He knew that he would never deliberately hide his true name no matter how he walked the world under the guise of an evil master.
It was a mark of arrogance that was uniquely his own.
Vlad had given the Drakenshade clan a regular cursed creature. However, after being infused with malice and fed by centuries of accumulated grudge, that creature had long since evolved into a malicious one.
Just as a regular cursed creature became the king by devouring others, the malicious cursed creature grew stronger by consuming malice, transforming into a monstrous creature over time.
It was unlike the regular cursed creature that had a distinct form of its own, but it uniquely rejected the golden light.
Therefore, when Alistair summoned the creature and Benjamin trapped it with his golden light barrier, it immediately severed its own tail and escaped.
And that "tail" was the malicious fragment that Benjamin had discovered.
Upon hearing Benjamin's explanation, Shannon finally understood why the earlier disturbance had completely ceased afterward.
Originally, she had been prepared for the malicious cursed creature to emerge after the array was broken. However, from what she heard now, it seemed the situation hadn't improved much.
Although it had severed its tail to escape, it had still managed to flee. A cursed creature that had been nourished by the Drakenshade clan for centuries, even with half of its power gone, was still a troublesome existence.
"Vlad isn't someone who likes to be controlled. His involvement with the Drakenshade clan several centuries ago must have had his own calculations behind it," Benjamin said, clearly having some understanding of Vlad.
Shannon had no intention of probing into his past with Vlad. What concerned her more now was what he had just mentioned. "You mean the Death of Drakenshade?"
With ten generations of power amassed came the Death of Drakenshade.
The members of the Drakenshade clan seemed unaware of this, but Vlad certainly knew.
Without wasting time, Shannon immediately sent an application to the relevant authorities. She would leave the aftermath in Draken Village to others and take responsibility for tracking down the escaped malicious creature.
As Benjamin listened to her discussion with Luke, he suddenly piped up. "I can help with the search."
The malicious creature feared his golden light, and facing Vlad alone would be dangerous for her. With him around, he could protect her.
Hearing Benjamin's words, Shannon gave him a single glance, one filled with emotions she couldn't quite express. In the end, she accepted his proposal that they would proceed together.
On the other end of the phone call, Luke fell silent, silently complaining, "Next time, you two can make these decisions yourselves. Really, there's no need to consult me."
…
After all, the one he ultimately needed to report to and listen to was Benjamin.
