"You're right. I did."
Benjamin didn't say how he felt after hearing it, though.
The light in Hector's eyes faded. "I don't know how you feel about Shannon now exactly, but regardless of what we used to be, it's my duty to remind you something as her brother."
His gentle expression carried a hint of harshness. "Just so you know, I won't hesitate to beat you up if you break her heart one day."
Whether it was the old or current Benjamin, Hector shared the same stance. He would never allow Shannon to endure any form of betrayal or pain in her relationship, even if the other party was the Dragon Vein.
Though confronted by Hector's strict tone, Benjamin appeared as grounded as always, emotionless and indecipherable. After a long while, he slowly responded, "Got it."
The conversation came to an end.
From the start, Hector had spoken to him as Shannon's brother. Whatever he wanted to tell his best friend was left unsaid.
He shared Shannon's feelings about Benjamin's return. He was glad he was back, and he was hopeful he would return to his old self.
Therefore, Hector decided to keep his message to his best friend buried until the old him returned.
…
Although the Jensens' appearances surprised Shannon, the original plan for the selection competition still had to proceed.
Although Hector and Hank couldn't act as spoiled or playful as Scott—relying on their youth to get their way—they still looked directly at Shannon, clearly curious.
She had intended to refuse, but suddenly, as if an idea struck her, she glanced at Scott and the others and asked, "I do have a way. But are you guys sure you want to go in?"
Scott nodded eagerly at her question while Hank, still reserved, nodded in agreement. Hector, on the other hand, simply smiled and said, "It'd be nice to take a look."
He had always been bothered by the fact that he couldn't connect with the world Shannon lived in and had missed out on many of her experiences as an ordinary person. This time, however, presented a rare opportunity.
Shannon looked at the trio for a long while, her tone soft and carrying a hint of a warning, as if she was weighing her words carefully. "Well… Don't say I didn't warn you."
