Actually, she does." Xylon explained, "According to the standard for completing a mission, she applied to the Demon Control Agency for a mission allowance. Additionally, she also consulted past practices and applied to the school for extra credit rewards."
In other words, Shannon didn't mind that the school didn't publicly commend her. However, she believed they should still reward her in private.
If anything, she wasn't as discredited as she appeared.
Naturally, Reuben was surprised at how proactive she was, asking for benefits from both sides. The coldness that had arisen from the school's actions had dissipated considerably.
That was better. Just like Thalia, she wasn't the type to let herself be wronged.
His gaze displayed signs of satisfaction, and his tone relaxed. "So, did they approve her request?"
"The DCA has granted her the allowance, but the school hasn't rewarded her with the extra credits." Xylon paused briefly, then added, "That's why she's been skipping classes for the last two days."
His last words prompted a glare from Reuben. Why didn't he report such key information from the start?
Xylon felt aggrieved. He only wanted to explain the cause and effect clearly so Reuben wouldn't think that Shannon had skipped classes on purpose.
If he led with that, Reuben, with his temper, would've surely become upset and quickly summoned her over for questioning. Now that he had learned the sequence of events, Shannon's "truancy" became justified.
Frankly, Xylon didn't think he had done anything wrong. In fact, he wasn't even far off to assume that Reuben would've summoned her over for questioning.
Now that he had learned the truth, Reuben decided to seek her out instead.
Kai sounded dubious. "I… know you can't. What's so bad about admitting it? Back when I first took on a human form, I couldn't control my horns and scales from showing either. But now, everything's good."
He continued, "It's actually fine if you can't retract them. It makes you look more like a demon. Besides, this is the demon territory, so regular people won't see them.
"Honestly, after looking at these two tails for a while, they actually look quite nice on you."
"Two?" Outside the door, Reuben's thoughts stirred for a moment before he decisively knocked on the courtyard gate.
The sound of the knock interrupted the two voices speaking inside the yard.
Shannon turned her head, her fox tail lifting slightly with her motion, carrying a hint of caution. She was about to get up to open the door, but the next moment, the once-locked gate was simply and casually pushed open.
