Shannon's eyes widened. She instinctively tried to draw more spiritual energy, but that was when she couldn't feel her spiritual energy at all.
What was going on?
She snapped her head up and stared at the suited man. "What have you done?" Or rather, what had the black smoke around her done?
Seeing her reaction, the suited man chuckled. "You're clever, but perhaps not clever enough."
His gaze deepened. Looking at her, he continued, "Within my black smoke, I make the rules."
Even if she could protect herself from being fully consumed by the black smoke, her spiritual energy would be endlessly suppressed as long as she was within it.
The Ghost Mist Organization had lost several powerful protectors to Shannon, and there was no way he would come unprepared.
Though he was one of the elders of the Ghost Mist Organization, he was nothing like those who recklessly underestimated their enemies, especially not an enemy like Shannon who was growing too fast.
Watching her expression grow grim, the man kindly commented, "You might not fully understand what that means. That's alright. I'll have you experience it firsthand."
With a snap of his fingers, Shannon felt the air around her compress. Her entire body felt as if it were being crushed, and even breathing became difficult.
After realizing what was happening, she instinctively tightened her grip on her amulet and pressed the golden light onto it. Then, she slashed it through the black smoke.
The golden light on the amulet carved open the gap, and the crushing force abruptly lifted.
Shannon sucked in a deep breath, but she didn't stop. Once she created a path, she didn't hesitate to grab Skylar and bolt.
If the black smoke defined the rules of the suited man, she just needed to find a place where the black smoke didn't exist.
Shannon and Skylar's eyes widened at his words. Heston! They were going to destroy Heston!
And if Heston died, Lexie would die too.
A sharp searing rage exploded in Shannon's chest and burned her eyes red. Her palm burned with golden light, and she moved to break free of the crushing weight.
But when she shot to her feet and saw the man emerging from the mist, she froze. Adam was standing in front of her.
Looking at her, his lips curled into a warm gentle smile, but his voice was colder than spirits from the depths of hell.
"My dear daughter, aren't you happy to see me?"
