Jordan's expression darkened at the thought that Shannon was using him as a hostage.
His lips curled into a cold smirk as he said, "Shannon, I used to think you were smart. I never thought you'd do something this foolish."
He tilted his head slightly and attempted to look at her. "Do you think I have any value as a hostage?"
Yes, he was the divine envoy, but that didn't mean he mattered to the Ghost Mist Organization. All they wanted was the Might of the Divine Power!
Shannon knew this and looked at him with icy indifference. "So, you're telling me that your existence is pathetic?"
Jordan's jaw visibly tensed. Word by word, she continued, "You work for the Divine Power, yet you're worthless. You dismiss the people who raised you as if they never mattered, so tell me, what is the meaning of your existence?"
Jordan fell silent. He felt personally attacked, but he had no proof.
Fortunately, Shannon didn't press the issue. Instead, she said, "But it looks like you do have some value after all."
As she spoke, the black smoke began to stir and form a figure. Soon, a man emerged and stepped forward from within the black smoke.
At first glance, the man looked younger than she'd imagined. He was dressed in a crisp suit and bore no resemblance to an evil master. If anything, he looked more like a businessman.
Beside him was Skylar, who'd disappeared into the black smoke. The latter was still gripping his sword, and his fingers froze mid-gesture.
He saw his surroundings and looked confused.
The suited man spoke in a polite voice, "I'm returning your man. Now could you return mine?"
He motioned toward Jordan, and his demeanor was so polite yet Shannon couldn't let her guard down. This man felt far more dangerous than Scarlett.
As she spoke, she subtly signaled Skylar with her eyes. In the next second, she moved and shoved Jordan forward.
Two thunder talismans appeared in her hand, and one of them was the last remaining fire thunder talisman infused with the power of phoenix.
Before the suited man could react, Shannon activated them with her spiritual energy.
"With all laws reduced to flame commands my divine power. With the talisman as my seal, with thunder as my guide… By the decree of pardon…"
The talisman blazed with spiritual light as she chanted fast. If the suited man wanted to act, he had time.
Yet he did nothing. He stood still and calmly watched her as if sensing her thoughts to launch her ultimate move and end it all quickly.
While Shannon was puzzled at his reaction, she watched as the spiritual light on the talisman dimmed.
