"We still have plans tomorrow, so rest early tonight."
As if reminded of something, Zane solemnly added, "Separately."
Shannon was at a loss for words, finding it hard not to believe he had received special instructions from Hector. Or perhaps Thalia or even Adam…
Of course, she had never assumed that it was Zane himself who wanted to be strict—not for his aunt Celeste but because he was her brother—cousin, brother, whatever.
His interruption had successfully made Benjamin and Shannon go to rest separately. Before they did, Benjamin—very skilfully—lowered his body and planted a kiss on her forehead.
Then, before waiting for her and Zane's reaction, he said, "Rest well."
It wasn't until he sent her off to her room that he calmly said goodnight to Zane and returned to his room.
Zane couldn't help but call him a sly fox in his mind.
That brief episode quickly passed. By the time everyone in the villa had fallen asleep, Benjamin slowly opened his eyes in the master bedroom.
His consciousness scattered, drifting above the city of Arenvale. A peculiar energy flowed through a particular residential building.
It passed through the walls, entering the dream of one of the sleeping spouses in the bed. But just two minutes later, it quickly left, passing through the walls again to enter the body of a child.
That night, it wandered through various households, only to eventually detach with a sense of weariness, as though it had grown bored.
Just as it was lazily preparing to move to another building, a strange energy suddenly appeared before it. Before it could escape, the energy was suddenly enveloped by a burst of golden light and lifted directly in front of a person.
That person was Benjamin, while the energy was the reason for his trip to Arenvale this time.
"It is you, Dreambeast."
After a long pause, he collected his emotions once more. Taking advantage of the dim light before dawn, he swiftly returned to the villa.
At the same time, deep in a basement somewhere in the city, the true body of the Dreambeast sensed the destruction of its avatar. It reacted instantly as if sensing imminent danger.
Without hesitation, its true form transformed into a ball of light and swiftly entered the body of a person hidden in the corner of the room.
The essence of the Dreambeast seamlessly merged with the person's consciousness. The girl, who had been lying motionless on the ground, shuddered slightly. Then, she curled up in obvious pain, her body contorting as though she were struggling against something unseen.
In the darkness, the girl's figure was barely discernible. Her face was devoid of features—no eyes, no nose, no mouth—just a smooth, blank surface.
Inside her, the soul, also lacking its features, twisted and writhed in agony as if it were trapped in a nightmare of unimaginable despair.
This kind of terrible, hopeless dream was exactly what the Dreambeast reveled in. It thrived on such suffering, feeding off the pain and desperation that radiated from the soul in its deepest, most vulnerable state.
