"She's a fool!" Skylar cursed rather gloomily.
He had always thought that while Maya was arrogant, self-centered, and often insufferable, she was raised by Warren and had the pride and integrity of the mystic arts community instilled in her.
After all, being part of such a prestigious legacy should have given her some sense of honor. Yet, she so easily fell for a simple little trick. And just like that, she willingly joined the dark arts.
"Perhaps it wasn't because of her foolishness."
Benjamin, who had been silent the entire time, spoke up with a cold voice. "Some people, even knowing it's a trap, will still charge in without hesitation."
To become the top representative of her mystic school, Maya couldn't possibly be a simple fool. Rather than being unknowingly manipulated, it was the conscious choice of her own descent that she had ultimately embraced.
Skylar listened to Benjamin's words and fell silent, his expression eerily grim. The room was in utter quietness for two seconds.
Benjamin suddenly took out his phone and fiddled with it for a moment, soon sending over the information he had found to Shannon and the others.
"Here are the reports on recent drownings in this neighborhood."
Shannon took the phone and scanned through the reports.
The recent drowning news included two children who had drowned, a female college student who had died while attempting to save someone, and a female office worker who was drowned at home by her lover.
She quickly skimmed over the first three and focused on the last one.
Normally, when a ghost appeared accompanied by water traces, it was often the result of a drowning. Although these reports mentioned drownings, there was a difference between the ghosts of those who died accidentally and those who were murdered.
The report mentioned that the lover who killed her was soon apprehended by the police after his crime was discovered. Although she couldn't take revenge herself, at least the person who caused her death would pay the price for his actions, even if she couldn't see it with her own eyes.
As Shannon thought about this, she suddenly pulled out a talisman, quickly sketching a soul-calming talisman with a vermilion pen. Then she chanted an incantation before tossing the talisman into the air.
It stuck to the ceiling and quickly ignited into flames.
She looked up, softly informing, "The person who murdered you has been captured. You can rest in peace now."
Accompanied by this sound, the talisman burned to its end. At the same time, the human-shaped water stain on the ceiling seemed to slowly stretch and, before long, began to disappear.
In the blink of an eye, no trace was left on the ceiling. Along with it, the lingering negative energy in the room also completely dissipated in that instant.
