The scent of cat food wafted into Eddie's nose, and disbelief flickered in Fennec's gaze.

The human was eating cat food! Was he out of his mind?

Of course, Eddie wasn't. He watched as his act of eating cat food caught Fennec's attention, whose expression betrayed a hint of shock.

Thinking it might just be his imagination, he grabbed another piece of cat food and popped it into his mouth with an audible crunch.

Fennec's eyes widened further, and her fox face displayed an almost human-like look of astonishment.

Now it was Eddie's turn to be surprised at the fox's vivid expression.

"You really are the Fox Deity!" he solemnly declared. He sprang into action and set up his phone to position his camera. Then, he began recording.

"Everyone! You wouldn't believe what I stumbled upon today on my way home!

"Ta-da! Look! It's the Fox Deity! This must be a sign from the animal deity I've been worshipping!"

Fennec was utterly lost. It struck her that she might've stumbled upon a lunatic.

Oblivious to Fennec, Shannon was currently in the same apartment building but just on a different floor.

She couldn't sleep though she was physically exhausted.

She sat up straight scrolling her phone over and over, only to find that though the device was powered on, all her apps were blocked.

Even the MysticApp which was supposedly universally functional across worlds, refused to open.

Now that she had no way to contact anyone, she couldn't search for information about the alternate world either.

Shannon responded with a hum. Then, she nodded and softly repeated, "Mom."

Celeste's face immediately crumpled as if she were about to cry. Without hesitation, she climbed onto the bed and hugged Shannon tightly. "Shannon, I want to hold you while I sleep."

Shannon wanted to refuse, but one look at Celeste's red, tear-filled eyes made her give in. "Fine. Just don't hold me too tight."

Celeste perked up at her words and hugged her as they lay down.

Seeing Shannon resting in the crook of her arm was everything she'd imagined countless times. Her throat tightened, and a wave of bittersweet emotion washed over her.

Sensing her emotions in turmoil, Shannon was silent for a while before speaking softly, "Two others came with me. Once we all reunite, let's go back together."

Celeste froze briefly at the words "go back together". Her expression flickered with a hint of bitterness and moved.

After a long pause, she smiled faintly and softly replied, "Alright."
