Shannon recalled how sullen and half-dead the system had been after their last encounter with Jordan. She could sense the blow the system had suffered from the latter.

It was probably similar to how Brooklynn felt about her owner. Though it was designed like a system, it harbored a unique sentiment for the "owner" who'd created it.

But wasn't the sentiment a little too intense? There was a love-hate relationship.

Yet since the system had proactively asked to help, Shannon wasn't about to refuse. She brought Tortoise the System and Fennec along with her.

Just as she stepped out of the door, an unexpected scene greeted her.

Kai stood at the gate of the Jensen residence with his scales raised in aggression. He glared intently at the tall man before him.

Behind him, a round-faced lady peeked out nervously. Her expression flitted between alarm and excitement.

When she spotted Shannon approaching from a distance, her face lit up as if she'd been granted a reprieve. Waving her arms enthusiastically, she called out and complained, "Hurry up, Shannon! Your snake deity won't let me in!"

Shannon was visibly surprised to see Lexie and the Unmelting Bone at her door.

Lexie had taken the Unmelting Bone to her hometown for an ancestral tribute, and now she was back already.

Before she could approach, Kai, who was called out as a snake deity, could no longer hold back. "I'm not the snake deity! Are you blind? Can't you see that I'm a wyrm with horns?"

Shannon nodded slightly and did not hide the truth from her. "The Black Smoke Organization and Jordan are being hunted down by the Special Security Agency. I'm heading somewhere else to search for clues."

"I'll go with you." Lexie immediately decided and left Shannon no room to argue.

Shannon thought it over and didn't refuse, but just as she agreed, Kai objected. "Shannon, are you leaving with the Unmelting Bone? Absolutely not!"
