Shannon turned to Benjamin and explained, "First, we need to report to the Special Security Agency that the Unmelting Bone has escaped."
Benjamin wasn't too surprised by her statement, but Benji Gold and Shanny Gold, clinging to Heston, tilted their heads in confusion.
If the Unmelting Bone had escaped, whose head were they holding onto now?
Shannon knew Benjamin understood her intent. They'd made quite a spectacle today. Though Benjamin covered the parade and its associated expenses, they'd gone through special approvals to get the official cooperation to clear the streets.
The Special Security Agency was aware that today's parade was to lure out the Unmelting Bone, so Shannon had some explanation to do. She wouldn't like the Special Security Agency interfering with what she planned to do next, after all.
She turned to Heston and explained, "You have a unique identity, so even if I trust you won't spread deadly toxin to harm anyone, it doesn't mean mystic masters or the Special Security Agency will believe the same.
"To convince them to allow you to live like a normal person, there has to be a restriction placed on you. So, my idea is to establish a spirit contract."
In simple terms, it was like putting a shackle on Heston.
The shackle might seem unfair to him, but everyone alive in this world was bound by rules like how laws act as a form of restriction on people. Such restrictions regulated behavior and created accountability.
A spirit contract was the most suitable approach Shannon could think of, but she wasn't sure if it'd be effective on the Unmelting Bone. The contract might need some adjustments to work in his case.
However, the entire plan had to be kept a secret from the Special Security Agency before the contract was successfully established.
Shannon wasn't sure if they would grant her time to experiment, so the best solution was to act first and explain later.
Benjamin wasn't surprised by her plan to bind the Unmelting Bone with a contract. But…
Her goal from the beginning had been to just place a contract on Heston. As for who it was, she didn't necessarily have to be the one.
She had someone else in mind, a far more suitable candidate.
As she spoke, her phone rang. She glanced at the screen and waved at Benjamin as she answered. "The perfect candidate is here."
Answering the call, she asked, "Where are you? Why aren't you here yet?"
Lexie's chaotic and frantic voice came from the other end of the line. "Shannon, there are so many people here! I'm stuck in traffic! Give me ten minutes! No, make that eight minutes!"
As she spoke, she reminded Shannon, "Make sure you save the Unmelting Bone for my contract!" That was her only chance to bring glory to her ancestors!
