Heiress Unmasked: Shaking the World With Geomancy novel Chapter 1072

Shannon watched the way Rhodes' jaw dropped in enlightenment. A terrible gut feeling rose within her.

Rhodes' eyes darted around before fixing on her face. Then, he asked with a hopeful expression, "Would you like a Fenris jerboa as a pet?"

Shannon replied, "No thank you."

Rhodes refused to give up. "I'm low maintenance. I'm much easier to care for than that fox of yours."

He'd chosen this house because of the jungle-themed playroom. He'd been envious after learning it was built for pets.

Humans rarely liked rodents though he wasn't exactly one.

Marshmallow, who'd quietly followed Shannon since she left her bedroom, bared its teeth after hearing that. It hadn't settled scores with Rhodes for stealing its canned food, and now how dare he covet Shannon?

Shannon saw a Marshmallow bristling and bent down to scoop it up.

She smoothed its fur and was about to firmly reject Rhodes again when Benjamin suddenly spoke up. "She doesn't want you as a pet."

His tone wasn't too loud or harsh, but it carried an oppressive weight that made Rhodes tremble.

Rhodes shrunk and awkwardly muttered, "Well then… Never mind." He crouched down and curled himself into a ball.

For some reason, he looked oddly aggrieved.

Shannon observed him for a while before reaching out to remove the chains on him. Then, she asked, "What's your name?"

Though Rhodes regained his freedom, he was still confined by the barrier. He immediately answered, "My name's Rhodes."

Shannon didn't have time to escort him herself. Who knew how long it'd take for staff from the Demon Control Agency to fetch him?

Though she could pass him to the National Security Agency, she figured a self-surrender might earn him a more lenient treatment.

From what she could tell, Rhodes harbored no ill will toward humans, so she saw no harm in doing him a small favor.

Rhodes was touched by her leniency. He let out a couple of squeaks of gratitude before promising to turn himself in.

After Shannon removed the barrier and saw him revert to his true form to leave, a thought suddenly struck him. She asked, "Wait. If someone accidentally consumes the pills, is there a way to neutralize it?"

Rhodes appeared far more amiable in his true form rather than in his middle-aged man guise. But when he opened his mouth, his voice was still that of a gruff man's.
