Shannon listened to Rhodes chatter away and was utterly speechless. It was clear he believed he was doing good.
Of course, for families unable to conceive and longing for children, he was indeed doing a good deed. But could his motivations be that simple as a demon?
"Is that the only reason?" Shannon asked, staring at him. She had to make sure he had no chance of lying his way out.
Rhodes dared not lie since he was being bound by her chains. He mumbled, "Also for money."
He'd lived through so many years and witnessed human civilization evolve, so he'd developed a taste for human delicacies. But all of that required money to acquire.
Though he could transform into his true form and sneak into homes to feast on the food, he didn't want to be a rat demon that only survived by stealing. He wanted to earn his own money.
"I used to see how sylphdeers were adored by humans. Humans would climb mountains just to find it and offer tributes just for a few strands of their fur.
"We're both demons, so why do they like it but not me?"
Fenris jerboas didn't have the ability to bless humans with pregnancy, so Rhodes thought of an alternative. He decided to pluck fur from sylphdeers.
All the sylphdeer's fur he now had was from his harvests back then. But since his storage wasn't enough to support large-scale fertility enhancement, he thought of powdering the sylphdeer's fur and mixing them into chocolate for humans.
Chocolates invented by humans not only resembled medicine but also tasted like it. Wasn't that perfect?
Rhodes had thought this was going to be an amazing business. Perhaps once his reputation grew, he could be worshipped by humans like sylphdeers.
Shannon was utterly speechless by how professional he was.
Kai, who'd been listening the entire time, couldn't help but mock him. "Even I know humans don't want children as much anymore. How could you think this was a good way to make money? Dumbass!"
Rhodes seethed. Since Kai had a powerful demon backing him, and he couldn't fight against the former, he decided to let it slide.
Kai added, "Why bother earning money yourself if you want good food and fun things? That's so much work. Just find a human that can feed you." Like him, for instance.
Realization hit Rhodes. Why hadn't he thought of that?
