Alyssa’s eyes twitched a bit. 

But she didn’t turn her head. 

“Dad, I had a dream. I dreamt of Julia. She said she hates me and will never forgive me. Now I know what it feels like to be the talk of the town. I never understood why she chose to overdose. Now I get it.” 

Alyssa’s voice was faint, like a whisper. 

Her father began to speak, “Don’t let your mind wander, those are all things from twenty years ago. And, it wasn’t all your fault back then. Now you’ve experienced death once, you can say you’ve paid your dues to her.” 

“But it’s not over, Dad. Agnes is actually Julia’s daughter.” 

This was news to her father. 

“I’m willing to deal with my past mistakes, but I can’t let Jared carry my cross. How am I supposed to face him? I let him down. He will be ridiculed and isolated by others. I ruined his marriage, Dad, it’s all my fault.” 

“Alyssa, do you only see Jared as your son?” Tim’s voice suddenly became stern. 

Alyssa slowly turned her head, her face soaked with tears. 

Tim continued, “You’ve always favored Jared since he was little, but you also have Ryder. Ryder is your son too. Why don’t you consider his feelings? Even when he’s not around, you still have me, your father. I’m old, your mother is long gone, I only have you, my daughter. Can you really bear to make me, an old man, arrange your funeral?” 

His voice choked. 

Alyssa was sobbing, “Dad, I’m sorry.” 

Tim walked over to the bed, sat down, and grasped Alyssa’s hand. “My child, I don’t care about anything else. I can give up everything, but I can’t lose you. You’re my most precious person, forever. Whatever happens, even if the whole world abandons you, I’ll still stand in front of you, leaning on my cane, fighting the world for you.” 

His words were deep and firm. 

Alyssa looked at his white hair, tears streaming down her face. ‘Dad, I’m sorry I’ve always made you worry. I’ve done so many wrong things in my life. Everyone in the world despises me, no one loves me, only you’re still here.” 

Alyssa sat up, put her arms around her father’s shoulders, and cried out loud. 

Just like when she was sixteen, she got pregnant and threatened to kill herself, but Michael Albert still left. 

At that time, she was so hopeless, thinking about death every day. Her father dropped everything to stay by her side every day. Those days he hardly rested, although he’s a tough man, he lost a lot of weight in a few days. 

Now, it seemed like they were back to the past. 

But, her father looked so old now. 

Alyssa, tearfully said, “Dad, if I could live again, I would never fall in love with him, I wouldn’t be so wilful, I would definitely listen to you. Then today’s tragedies wouldn’t have happened, there wouldn’t be so many people suffering because of me, it’s all my fault, all my fault…” 

Tim patted Alyssa’s back, comforting her, “My dear, it’s not your fault. No one can control their emotions, who they fall in love with, who they don’t. Life always has some unavoidable predicaments, that man was your predicament, but you can’t let it break you. You still have me, and Jared and Ryder. You don’t have to care about what others think. Haven’t you always wished that Jared would call you morn? This matter becoming public isn’t entirely a bad thing, you lost a brother, but gained a son.”
