Girl Get Rid Of That Jerk (Williams and Shawn) novel Chapter 323

After a bit, there was a knock at the door.

The next thing she knew, the door swung open, and Watson popped his head in. "Hey, Allison, mind if I come in?"

Allison nodded, "Sure, come on in."

Watson stepped inside.

"Is this about the Helix Sciences case?" Allison asked. "I was just thinking of coming to find you. That case is a real puzzle, and I could use your take on it."

Helix Sciences, a biotech company, had its CEO, Javier, as an old buddy of Allison's. Right after her law firm opened, Helix Sciences had already trusted them with a bunch of cases.

One particular case had a tangled web of legal issues and sketchy evidence, making it quite the gamble if taken to court.

But Watson shook his head. "Nah, I didn’t come to talk about Helix Sciences."

Allison raised her eyebrows, a touch of confusion in her gaze. "Oh? Then what’s up?"

"Something on your mind lately?"

Allison paused. "You noticed?"

"Yeah," Watson chuckled. "You've been so out of it, you're practically wearing a sign that says 'I’ve got something on my mind.'"

Allison pressed her lips into a thin line. "Is it that obvious?"

"Very much so."

"Alright." Allison let out a small sigh, her gaze dropping a bit. "There’s been some stuff going on at home."

Watson's expression softened with concern. "Mind sharing what's going on?"

Allison thought for a moment before speaking. "It’s my sister. She’s having a tough time, mentally. I’m really worried about her."

"I know a top-notch psychologist," Watson suggested. "Maybe they could help."

Allison wrapped up her case files, switched off the office lights, and made her way out.

"Allison," Watson called after her.

She turned around. "What’s up?"

Watson came over, his eyes smiling behind those gold-rimmed glasses. "Weren’t we going to chat about the Helix Sciences case? There’s a new bistro nearby I’ve heard good things about. Fancy discussing it over dinner?"

Allison hesitated for a moment. "Sure, sounds good."

Even though the workday was done, Allison didn’t mind diving into work talk with Watson after hours. This was her firm, and the Helix Sciences case was her project. Watson offering his time was something she didn’t take for granted.

Allison grinned, "Let me treat you to dinner, Watson, as a thanks for your help with the case."

"Great," Watson agreed without a second thought.

Allison hit the elevator button, and Watson stood by her side, quietly waiting.
